Edgeworld – Game Introduction

Edgeworld is a Facebook game developed by Kabam that puts you in the shoes of an army commander in an intergalactic war. Gamezebo’s Edgeworld strategy guide and walkthrough will provide you with a quick start guide, tips and tricks, hints, and cheats to help you rule the galaxy.

Quick Start Guide

Getting Started

  • Edgeworld is played on Facebook and you will need to have a current account to play. If you need to register for a free account click here – http://www.facebook.com
  • Once you have a Facebook account you are ready to play and can click on the “Free – Play Now” button at the top of this page.
  • You will be asked to give permission to allow the developer to post messages on your profile page at Facebook. Click on “Allow” and proceed to the game.
  • After watching the short intro animation, your AI assistant Kira will walk you through a short tutorial, explaining the basics of the game.

Establishing Your Base

When you start the game, your base consists of only a command center, a crystal mine, a gas refinery, a warp gate, and a staging area. Start by building a solar plant, a reactor, a supply depot, barracks, and two gun turrets on opposite ends of your base. These can be found in the “Build” menu at the bottom of your screen. You will then want to start by upgrading the crystal mine, gas refinery, solar plant, reactor, and gun turrets to level two

Tip – To upgrade buildings to any new level, make sure that you first upgrade your command center to the level you want to upgrade to.

Edgeworld

Having done that, deciding on your next steps is probably easiest to decide by following the recommended missions in your mission menu. By clicking on Kira, you will see an overview of the missions you can undertake.

Tip – Be aware that unlike in most games, you actually need to claim the mission rewards if you want to receive them; they are not automatically given to you.

Edgeworld

From here on on, you will want to try and upgrade your buildings relatively equally. So when you upgrade your command center to a new level, upgrade your buildings to that level before you level up your command center — and thus the maximum level of any other building — any further. This way, you can keep playing the game at a steady pace; otherwise you’ll end up wasting a lot of time further down the line getting some of your other buildings upgraded.

Resources

In Edgeworld, there are four different kinds of resources: crystal, gas, energy, and uranium. Your resource buildings will automatically keep producing these until they are full. The higher the level of the resource building, the longer it takes for it to fill up, so it’s a good idea to upgrade these as soon as possible. Resources can always be collected, even if the building is not full.

Edgeworld

Make sure that you build extra supply depots and upgrade them in time with your resource buildings, or you might run out of storage space.

Training Your Troops

When you start the game, you will only have marine troops are your disposal. In order to unlock new troops, or to level up your existing troops, build a tech lab and research new troops, or upgrades for troops. Upgrade the tech lab to be unlock more types of troops.

Tip – When you have upgraded a certain type of troops, all troops you have already trained in your barracks will automatically become this level as well.

Edgeworld

To actually get troops for battle, you must train them in the barracks. After training them, they will be ‘kept’ in the staging area. Upgrading the barracks will allow you to que up training efforts, while upgrading the staging areas will allow you to hold more troops.

Attacking

If you want to attack other players, click on the map-icon to open up a list of all players you can attack. The “Players [PVP]” tab shows all the human players in your sector. The “Feuds [PVP]” tab shows which human players you have recently attacked or have been attacked by. The “Factions [PVE]” tab shows a list of computer players of increasing levels.

Edgeworld

Click on the “Scout” button to visit another players’ base and decide if you want to attack them. If you do, simply press the big green “Attack” button at the top of the screen.

Edgeworld

Now choose which troops you wish to send out into battle. At the bottom of the screen you can see how much your warp capacity is -how many troops you can send out per battle- so try and put together a well-balanced team. When you have put together your team, move your mouse to the ground to see a circle appear. If the circle is red, you are too close and you can’t drop off your team there. Try and find where the circles becomes green to drop your soldiers as close to the base as possible.

Tip – If you want, you can also choose to drop several teams on several spots, or drop the teams in intervals. For instance, send out the big rhino’s first to cover for your lighter and faster troops.

Edgeworld

The maximum amount of troops you can send into battle, as well as their health, is dependant on the level of your warp gate. To send more troops into battle, you must upgrade the warp gate.

Forming An Alliance

As this is a game in which players can attack each other, there is always the risk of a player choosing you to pick on. While sometimes being attacked is as much part of the game as leading your troops to victory, it can sometimes be annoying if they simply won’t give you a break.

By joining an alliance, each member of an alliance will be able to see when another alliance member was attacked. As revenge is a dish best served warm, they can take revenge for you. As an alliance, you can also work together in fighting other alliances, competing over the number one spot everyone dreams of.

Edgeworld

Everyone is hereby also invited to join the Gamezebo alliance, teaming up with your fellow Gamezebo readers and writers to become a force to be reckoned with.

Choose Your Own Playing Style

How to play Edgeworld, is up to each player personally. You can play very casually, only attacking computer players and maybe the occassional human player, or you can choose to become a warlord who attacks whoever is on their path.

You can even choose to do both! On the top right of the screen, you can change the sector in which you’re playing. In each of the four sectors available in Edgeworld, you can build your own base, and try out different strategies that way.
