What do you do when you encounter a Doors Mandrake? There are various ways of dealing with it, one of which relies on the appearance of the Groundskeeper entity in Doors! Another entity that isn’t obvious when you enter a room is the Monument – find out how to counter it in our other guide.

Doors Mandrake

The Mandrake is a complicated entity in the way that it can instantly kill you, but there are multiple ways of avoiding its wrath. The Doors Mandrake acts similarly to how the folklore tales describe it.

How to Survive a Mandrake Encounter

While exploring the Outdoors level, you can see roots in the ground. Most of the time, these roots are harmless, but sometimes they may be a Mandrake! You won’t know it’s a Mandrake until it jumps out of the ground and begins screaming at you. It’s quite jarring, to say the least. Your camera also points towards the location of the Mandrake, which throws you off a little at first. Once you recalibrate your camera, it’s time to decide how to deal with the entity.

The longer it screams, the more likely you are to be defeated. The key thing here is to get away from it as fast as possible or try to get it back on the ground. To do the latter, you need to pick the Mandrake up before planting it again, but this requires getting close to it. If you choose to run away from it, beware, as it starts to roll after you. You can still evade it even when it does this, but you need to be quick about it.

If the Groundskeeper is around as you encounter a Mandrake, it runs over and attacks the Mandrake itself with its scythe. Thanks, Groundskeeper, maybe you’re not so bad, after all! This depends on whether the Groundskeeper is nearby, though, so don’t rely on this method too much.
