Game Introduction – Doctor Who: Legacy

Doctor Who: Legacy

Doctor Who: Legacy is a free-to-play match-3 gem puzzler that pits you against some of Doctor Who’s most nefarious villains as you travel through time and space, gain new allies, and unlock new episodes from the series itself. Gamezebo’s quick-start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.

Quick Start Guide

Doctor Who: Legacy

Getting Started

  • Doctor Who: Legacy is free to play, and can be downloaded by using the “Available On” option at the top of this page.
  • When you first start up the game, you’ll be notified that it does use microtransactions. You can get past the warning and change the settings in your device’s menus later on if you don’t want to allow this. Although you can progress just fine without spending additional money, purchases can and will see you through tougher battles without having to grind for materials.

How to Play

Doctor Who: Legacy

  • Select an episode from unlocked story milestones to get started. Each level is comprised of back-and-forth dialogue between characters in a graphic novel-styled manner, and battles are staged with them. Your first battle is with a set of Sontarans, though you’ll face off against enemies from the Doctor to Cybermen.

Doctor Who: Legacy

  • Battles are comprised of very simple steps and are turn-based. Rather than simply being asked to match gems, you will be facing off against opponents. The Doctor and your allies have a health bar at the top of the screen, underneath the companion images. Don’t let the bar drop to zero and you’ll be just fine. Health does not regenerate between battle phases, so it’s important to keep it up as much as possible.
  • Gem colors are associated with the border/portrait of each character. Match 3 or more gems to power up all characters of that color type, and then make them attack. Each turn allows you to drag a gem around the board for 5 seconds. Match 3 and all characters of that color will attack. Match multiple sets and multiple characters attack.
  • Enemy attacks will drain your health, but sometimes they come packing additional wallops as well: gems will be frozen in place and you won’t be able to move them. The only way to clear these gems out is to include them in matches.
  • Tap on a specific enemy to target one instead of a group. There’s a required cooldown for each character at the top of the screen beneath enemies that denotes how many turns are required to make a move. Every ally has an ability, each with a cooldown. For instance, The Doctor’s Cunning ability deals 500 damage to all enemies.
  • When characters level up, you gain attribute points. Assign them to make sure they’re not wasted. Each character can be upgraded using certain materials.

  • Gather new allies here to add them to the fray. Back in the menu of the TARDIS, you can tap on portraits of each ally to learn more about them, and you can check on their Rank for how many fragments have been collected. Change costumes here as well. You can purchase additional items from the Store using real-world currency.

Tips and Tricks

Doctor Who: Legacy

  • Unlike most match-3 games, Doctor Who: Legacy has a heavy focus on team-building, item management, and experience grinding. Use this knowledge to your advantage and head back to replay certain segments to earn more character drops, fragments for upgrades, and more.

Doctor Who: Legacy

  • Match pink gems whenever possible, as you’ll regain health quickly this way. Seek out allies whose abilities complement each other. For instance, you can use one ally to clear out blue gems, and another to clear out orange gems. This will often lead to a board full of pink gems, and matches will automatically be made once the board fills back up after a match.
  • Keep chains going as long as you can. If you’ve only got one move, make it count. Sometimes, going for four gems to match up for additional damage isn’t the best move when you’re about to lose all of your health points in the next round. Plan ahead, even if it’s only a few moves. You’ll be thankful for it later on when you don’t have to wait to start the round over again.

Doctor Who: Legacy

  • Collect as many allies as you can, even if this means replaying chapters. You’ll have plenty of options to fall back on this way.
  • Don’t be afraid to head to the store if you need help.
