Disney Crossy Road is an endless Frogger-like from Hipster Whale and Disney, starring an entire cast of Disney and Pixar characters. Similar to the original Crossy Road, a large part of Disney Crossy Road is collecting and unlocking those various characters; this guide will help you do exactly that.
Below, all currently available characters are grouped by series or franchise, such as “Toy Story” or “Lion King.” This is also how they appear in the game’s character select screen. Each series has a unique map its characters run on; this will be described under the series header, with any differences between individual characters called out in their personal entry.
A large number of the secret characters—those that cannot be won via the 100-coin gacha machine lottery—are unlocked by completing “sets” of characters. If a character belongs to a set, it will be noted under that character’s entry. (At this time, the “sets” information is currently incomplete. Although all of the sets’ names are included on characters that must be unlocked, we are still confirming which characters actually belong to those sets. Until then, only some characters will be listed as part of a set. We’ll add this information as it is verified.) Also note that if you unlock a new character, you won’t be alerted to this until you return to the character select menu. You may have met the requirements but the new character will not pop up at the end of your current run unless you back out to the menu. (If you continue playing, it will appear the next time you visit the menu—you don’t need to return to the menu immediately.)
Characters also have different values of rarity this time around, ranging from “Classic” to “Legendary.” This affects both how likely you are to win them in the gacha lottery and how much they cost if purchased with real money. Classic are 99 cents, Rare are $1.99, Epic are $2.99, and Legendary—which contains only piggy bank Hamm at the moment—are $4.99.
The Zootopia characters run in a wintry, snow-filled environment we assume is inspired by Tundratown. Everything is covered in snow, from the trees to the logs floating in the river. While running, snowflakes will begin falling and a frosted sheen will cover the edges of the screen, making visibility slightly more difficult. Various construction objects, from orange cones to hurdles, dot the map. The standard vehicles have been replaced by animal-themed ones, like the extra-tall giraffe truck to the tiny red mouse Isetta, as well as an extremely long stretch limousine that fills the screen before it passes. When standing still for too long, Zootopia characters will be picked up by a helicopter instead of the standard eagle.
Mickey and Friends run on a map that is a slight variation of Crossy Road’s classic daytime environment. Light green grassy medians are broken up by streets busy with passing cars, railroad tracks with intermittent trains, and rivers with floating logs. Everything in Mickey and Friends’ world has a black cartoon outline and bobs up and down to the sound of the Mickey Mouse March playing in the background.
The Toy Story characters run in a colorful playroom world filled with teddy bears, dice, patrolling mechanical teeth, skateboard walls, and other plaything obstacles. Wooden blocks come barreling at you from the front, causing you to dodge not only horizontally but vertically as well. If the blocks run into another obstacle, they will be knocked away and out of your path. They are also a unique hazard because, if struck, your character will simply fall backwards and lie flat (like a still toy), as opposed to being crushed or flattened. If you stand still too long, a claw machine arm picks you up in place of the standard eagle. The background music is an 8-bit rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”
The Haunted Mansion characters run in a darkened hall with wooden floors and long red rugs, dotted with grandfather clocks, plush red chairs, end tables, candelabras, and posts capped by spider webs. The hazards passing through the room include ghostly dancing couples, floating dining tables, organs, carriages, and more. Suits of armor stand guard along the floor and will rush at you if you stay in their row or column too long; they will run you over if you are hit or will collapse into a pile if they miss you. The “train” that passes is a train of ghosts. If a character jumps near a candelabra, they will light it, pushing back the encroaching darkness for a short time. If you don’t light any candelabras, you will eventually end up with only a pinpoint of light around your character while the rest of the screen is black, making it very difficult to progress. Standing still too long results in a crow carrying you off instead of the standard eagle. At the start of each run, a snippet of the Haunted Mansion narration is read; the line you hear is directly from the ride itself and which line you receive is random and there are at least eight different snippets of narration. The song that plays is also from the ride: the foyer background music.
The Lion King characters run through an African wilderness, with the typical car hazards replaced by running giraffes, gazelles, elephants, hippos, and other creatures. Alligators float in the river and will eat you if you jump on their head (similar to the Australian-themed characters in Crossy Road). The river logs are blue and the lily pads red; the grass is a pale green and dotted with rocky outcroppings. Instead of a “train”-like obstacle, there is occasionally a large open road (with a single rock formation in the center) through which a herd of wildebeests will charge, stretching across the entire road and lasting slightly longer than the average train. If you are hit by these wildebeests, your character will be knocked up into the air instead of being squished. You can use the single rock formation for protection during the stampede if you stand on the correct side of it (the side the red bird flies in from, indicating where the wildebeests will originate). If you stand still too long, a vulture will carry you away instead of the eagle. The background song that plays is “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King.”
The Tangled characters run through a busy forest, with roads overrun by forest creatures like rabbits and warthogs, as well as human obstacles like running Pub Thugs and guards on horseback. Wooden barrels and boxes come rolling at you from the front and occasionally from the side, similar to the blocks in the Toy Story universe. They will shatter upon hitting another obstacle, but otherwise must be dodged. Red snakes crawl along the ground in somewhat unpredictable patterns. Rivers are traversed by jumping on logs and gondolas. Instead of being squished or flattened, characters shatter into hundreds of pieces when hit. The birds that dot the landscape are blue instead of the standard white, and a blue bird carries you away if you stand still too long in place of the eagle. The background song is “Something That I Want.”
The Big Hero 6 characters run through the streets of San Fransokyo. Large buildings, colorful billboard advertisements, and overhead train tracks surround the streets, potentially blocking your view of oncoming hazards. The streets are packed with a variety of cars, from trucks transporting boxes to blue busses, tiny smart cars, trolleys, rickshaws, black blobs of microbots, and even what appears to be a rocketized Mochi. The trains are a fast-paced set of trolleys; this is one of the few maps where the “train” car is also visible as a normal street vehicle. Covered manholes occasionally appear in the middle of the street; if you run over these, you will fall in and end your run. Like the Tangled characters, Big Hero 6 figurines will shattered if hit by an obstacle, instead of being squished or flattened. If you stand still too long, you’ll be picked up by what appears to be flying Baymax.
The Inside Out characters run through Riley’s mind, which is surrounded by walls of long-term memory orbs; chasms crossed on thin, cloud-like planks; and iridescent roads filled with passing thoughts of broccoli, tricycles, the car Riley and her family drove to San Francisco, hockey players, lines of imaginary boyfriends, Bing Bong’s rocket, and other memories. The train that passes by is the train of thought. Memory orbs dot the landscape and can be picked up; if you carry them to one of the purple buttons on the ground and step on this, the orbs will be sucked up and you’ll receive an increasing amount of bonus points for how many you have in your hand at that time (5 for one orb, 15 for 2, 30 for 3, 50 for 4, and so on). This makes collecting and depositing orbs just as important as traveling a far distance, since you can get massive amounts of points simply by picking up orbs. If you stand still too long, a pneumatic return tube will drop down and suck you up instead of the standard eagle.
The Wreck-It Ralph characters run through the land of Sugar Rush, which is brightly colored throughout and filled with candy-themed scenery and obstacles. The roads and grass are pink, with candy cane trees and gumdrop blocks dotting the world. The cars that pass are made up of the Sugar Rush kart racers, designed from candies like whirly pops and butterscotch. The main drag of each road features a checkered raceway path. The river is made up of mint green taffy and crossed on striped candy sticks. The map is filled with floating pieces of candy that can be collected while running: doing so will give you a score multiplier which applies to both picking up other candies—which award points—and taking steps. So, for example: if you have a multiplier of x5 currently, every step you take will award five points instead of one, and small candies (which award 25 points base) will give you 100 points. This means your high score in the Wreck-It Ralph world is based not on how many steps you take, but on the total points you earn, and collecting candies is much more valuable than gaining ground. There is also a large, cherry candy available on Rare and Epic maps, which gives characters a super power for a short time. When cherry-powered, characters can attack stationary obstacles like trees and gumdrops to earn extra points, which are also affected by the current multiplier. Each character has a different effect on obstacles they attack. Like Tangled and Big Hero 6, Wreck-It Ralph’s figurines shatter upon impact instead of being run over or squished. If you stand still too long, a candy-coated cy-bug picks you up instead of the standard eagle.
