INTRODUCTION

Dinertown Tycoon is a simulation game in which you will help the heroine of Dinertown "Flo" save Dinertown from the overtaking of Grub Burger. There are 5 restaurant districts with 2-3 restaurants in each that you will be required to do various tasks for in order to save.

You will purchase items after studying the varying market conditions in the daily newspaper, put together a menu based on market research of your customer base, price the items of your menu based on market demands, purchase decor for your restaurant to bring in more customers, and purchase various advertising for you restaurants.

After you make these decisions for each day you will get to see how your decisions play out while watching time elapse. Based on the previous days profit you will make these decisions again using the information you glean from that town’s daily newspaper. Once you have served a predetermined number of customers for each restaurant you will have saved that restaurant from the overtaking of Grub Burger!

The game is divided into five districts – Squid Row, Bistro Bay, Avenue Flo, Thyme Square, and Champagne Falls.

Each District has 2 to 3 restaurants each with a specific customer base that requires specific food ingredients offered on the menu. To make these people happy you must purchase menu items that contain these customers favorite ingredients.  To learn which items a customer prefers, you will need to do market research on them and purchase this information by clicking on the "Goal Screen" or you can use the information provided to you here as the market research has been done for you for each customer base.

BASIC GAMEPLAY ELEMENTS

(This is the best order in which to do these daily tasks.)

Study the daily overview.

Here you will click on "Overview" on the left hand side of screen and will study the information presented to you. You will see the chef of the restaurant, the previous day’s most popular dish, how many customers you served and what percentage of those customers were happy and unhappy with your service and the total amount of cash earned in which you have for the current days expenditures and choices.

Purchase advertising

Each level offers various advertising you may purchase at the beginning of each day. Click on the item to choose it and then you may drag it to anywhere on the screen you feel it would be strategic to place the item. A few items do not move. Those items that do move will show a hand when you mouse over them.

Check the Daily Newspaper

You will glean much useful information from the daily newspaper. Check it by clicking on "News" at the bottom of the screen. Note the crowd size and Daily Chef Challenge. (See Tips below) Make note of the Grub Forecast as it is usually wise to do what they are doing.

Contemplate the Daily Chef Challenge

The "Daily Chef Challenge" is very important as it can counteract Grub Burger’s progress. There is a meter on the goal page that fills up with the green glowing Secret X’ Sauce and if it reaches the fill line before you have served all of your customers the required amount of times you will lose the level. Both restaurants make progress each day and by winning the Daily Chef Challenge it will bring the sauce level down in their meter.

*TIP If you get a Daily Chef Challenge you do not feel you can win, you can hit the "Pause" button on the lower left of screen, then click on "Dinertown map" once back at the map click on the restaurant district you are playing making certain you hit the "Continue" button and it will take you back into the game where you left off but it will give you a different challenge each time you do this. You can do this over and over until you find a challenge you can win.

Purchase market Research

If you have the funds you can purchase information about each customer’s food ingredient preferences. The prices vary from $50 to $300 based on level. Once you have purchased research on a person, you can always come back and refer to it later. Click on the red envelopes to the left of screen to choose a customer to research. As the client is fed the meters fill up left to right. Once they meet the end the covered plate on the far right reveals a prize of money, advertising or food items.

Purchase items for your menus.

It is important to purchase a new meal for you menu as much as possible to increase your ingredient base and make the clientele happy. Click on the covered dishes to read about each item and click on "Buy" to purchase it. You can mouse over the grocery bag on the menu and it will show you each ingredient in a dish.

Restock your ingredients.

Here you can purchase the items you need to serve dishes. It is wise to keep a piece of paper nearby to jot down how many of each item you need. Some ingredients are found in more than one dish so you will need to buy enough for both dishes. Here you can see what items you have in stock, how many you bought the day before, and the current price of each ingredient and whether it is high or low in cost for the day.

There is a restock button to save you time along side each item and at the bottom a "Restock All" button which will replenish all items at once exactly the way you did it the previous day. There are up and down arrows for you to change the quantity if you need to adjust this. The green arrow under the ingredient picture alerts you to the item that will be most popular due to the newspaper. It is always wise to stock up on this item when you can.

Purchase Decor for your restaurants.

You will be allowed to purchase one decor item for each restaurant per day. These items vary from signs to shrubbery and vary in price from $50-$300 based on game level. It is not always possible for you to afford decor so it is not a priority. It will bring more customers to your restaurants so if you can afford it without issue it is wise to purchase it. Once a decor item is purchased the gold circles next to each restaurant on the map will fill in. You are also given a sneak peek of the next day’s decor item in a window next to your purchase.

Start the day to see your decisions play out.

Once you have done all your research and made all your decisions and purchases you will click on "Neighborhood" then "Start day" at the bottom right. You will now see if you made wise choices or not. Watch for hearts above satisfied customers and broken gray hearts for those that are not satisfied. These customers will become Grub Burgers happy customers so try to not let anyone leave upset. Take note of the people and their feedback.

You will also see people with gold coins above their heads. These are very happy customers leaving you an extra tip. Be sure to click on the coins to collect the tips. There is also an ingredient meter at the bottom center that shows you how fast items are depleting from your stores. Take note of these items as you make your daily purchases based on them. The images along the right side of the screen show how many meals each customer has purchased that day. Make a note of the ones with low numbers and either do market research or purchase their favorite ingredient containing menu items pricing them at a favorable rate.

GENERAL TIPS AND STRATEGIES

  • Purchase the advertising every day when possible.
  • On the first day of each restaurant set the prices to the low end of "Premium" and you will earn a lot of money. Don’t forget purchase advertising first and be sure to lower the price again for day 2.
  • Place the man in Gorilla Costume, balloons, man with arrow sign and any advertisement that can be moved close to Grub Burger to divert away their customers.
  • Purchasing Decor brings more customers but buying menu items is always priority.
  • Be sure to use the newspaper to gauge the crowd size, market conditions, and daily chef challenge. (See image above)
  • TIP- If you get a "Daily Chef Challenge" you can’t win, simply click on "pause" then "Dinertown Map" and then "Continue" to go back into the game. You will get a different challenge each time you do this, and can do it until you find a Daily Chef Challenge you can win.
  • Watch as the day progresses for customers with a broken gray heart above their head. Take note of which customers are doing this and then find out which food items they want and purchase the meal that has the most of their preferred ingredients in them. Also note the price of the item as it could be too high or non-existent in the restaurant.
  • Flo appears at day 12 and 29 and possibly other days of the month in the game. She is highlighted and glows with a blue hue when she walks among the customers. Click on her and she will freeze and any customers that hear her will go to your restaurant.
  • Keep an eye at the upper right hand corner of the newspaper so you can monitor which day it is and watch for Flo on days 12 and 29. (Possibly others as well.)
  • If you do not have enough of an ingredient for a meal you will lose a customer and that customer will go to Grub Burger. Make sure you keep a sheet of paper handy and do the math needed so you always have enough ingredient stock on hand.
  • Buying various dishes is critical to progress. Once you know what items your customers want you can move items on and off the menu as needed.
  • There is a Grub Forecast on every newspaper. Use it to see what Grub Burger is up to and following their lead for that day is usually a good idea.
  • Coins appear above a few customers heads that want to give you an extra tip. Be sure to click on these for optimal profit.
  • The game can be sped up at any point of the day. If you find your restaurant is finished serving customers you can speed up the day using the buttons along bottom left. This can make it hard to collect coins if you have multiple restaurants running.

SQUID ROW

Game Goal – Feed each customer 50 times to save the restaurants and complete the level.

Storyline Progression – Flo learns that a Grub Burger has been built on every corner of Donutville and Dinertown is next with Mayor Wimple’s approval. The burgers are made with the "ingredient X’ Sauce" and glow a neon green color. Those who eat the burgers turn into Zombies that can’t stop eating Grub Burgers. Flo is going to get to the bottom of this mystery and talk to the Mayor. Why is he allowing so many Grub Burgers to be built in Dinertown?

General Tips and hints for "Squid Row"

  • On the first day you are given the first menu item and a few of each ingredient at no charge. Be sure to buy advertising first and set the price to premium in the menu screen. Buy as many of each ingredient so you have an equal number of each and you should glean at least 700 dollars the first day. Be sure to lower the price off of "premium" on day 2. Option 2 -After purchasing the advertising, purchase the first available dish option for your menu and purchase as many of its ingredients as you can afford. The first two ingredients have been purchased already. Raise both items on the menu to "premium" prices and you should earn a lot of money. (I have had great luck with both options.)
  • Ironically, no one seems to really like squid on "Squid Row." Nervosa and Jo the Jogger are the only ones that will order it because the Squid dishes contain cheese which they both enjoy.
  • If you get the "Daily Chef Challenge" requiring you to purchase Squid it is up to you to either do so to win it, or use the tip above where you exit out to the Dinertown map and go back into the game until you get a Daily Chef challenge you feel you can win. (To do this click on "pause" then "Dinertown Map" then go back into the game by clicking on "Continue" Check the "News" again and repeat this process until you find a desired daily challenge.)
  • Purchase menu items over daily decor when short or tight on funds.
  • Once you know a customers preference either by purchasing market research or using the guide provided here, look for menu items that contain all of the ingredients they prefer as there are a few meals that actually do contain all of them.
  • Once you have all the information or you study the information provided here note which food items the majority of the people have in common for example, only one person likes kidney beans but three customers prefer Smith’s Farm Swiss Cheese so purchasing these menu items first will make more people happy each day.

General Tips and Hints for "Avenue Flo"

  • On day one buy advertising first then decide how much of the ingredients you would like and set the price to "premium" and this should earn you a lot of money. Be sure to lower it on day 2.
  • Flo appears walking with the customers on levels 12 and 29 and possibly others. If you see her, click on her and she will begin to advertise for you and those that hear will visit your restaurant. This only lasts a few seconds and if you can spot her early you may be able to click on her when she is in an ideal location. Flo glows with a light blue aura so she is easier to spot in the crowd.
  • Be sure to use the Newspaper to keep track of what day it is at the top right of screen in order to keep an eye out for Flo.
  • ** (See menu below) The restaurant "Margarita’s Cantina" offers a dish called "Spicy Fish Fajitas" which contains halibut, habanero, and shrimp. All three of these ingredients are favorites of "Rosie the Regular" and she will always buy it. So purchase this item for your menu as soon as possible and make sure you stay stocked up on those ingredients keeping in mind many menu items have common ingredients.
  • You do not have to buy menu recipes in the order they are presented along the bottom of screen. Look at the ingredients and choose item based on how many people prefer those ingredients. This strategy works well and earns you a lot of money. Be sure to keep paper nearby to jot down notes as you do market research or use information provided in this guide.

General Hints and Tips for "Champagne Falls"

  • This is the most difficult level in the game. Start out by purchasing the advertising balloons and 37 of each item. Place the price at a premium on your very first turn and be sure to buy the first level of decor. You should earn a large amount of money from this for day 2. Do not forget to lower the price on day 2.
  • Duck is the ingredient least needed so don’t buy too much of this for the first restaurant. Once you have the other 2 restaurants, it appears frequently in the menu but only Tina and Diane like it.
  • Buy recipes as soon as possible. The more the faster you will progress. You should have enough money to buy all recipes by the end of the level if you are careful.
  • Purchase the other restaurants as soon as you can. The X3000 has very expensive items and will boost you over the top.
  • Aim to have Tina, Uncle Charles and Madison complete their goals first as they each will receive $1000 and this can be used to buy a new restaurant or boost you ahead fast.
  • "The Cake" and "Escape Pods" are your biggest money makers so obtain these recipes as soon as you can afford them.
  • Do market research or use guide here to determine preferences of customers. Keep paper to jot notes on as you work.
  • Flo appears level 12 and 29. Watch for her for extra advertising as she is walking around she glows a bright bluish hue.
  • Keep an eye out for ingredients that have multiple customers wanting them. Always make sure they are on the menu at a fair price based on market conditions of the day.
