There are six different characters to choose from when you’re starting out in Diablo Immortal. They’re a varied bunch with a mix of skills and talents, and picking the right one that suits your play-style can be really important.

Which is why we thought it was a good idea to write up this guide, breaking down each of the six classes, explaining what they do, what their strengths and weaknesses are and whether they’re a good fit for new players. If you’re just about to set off on your Diablo Immortal journey and you’re umming and aahing over which character to pick, you’ve definitely come to the right place. So let’s get on with it – here’s our guide to every character in Diablo Immortal.

Barbarian

  • Class: Melee
  • Damage: Physical

Barbarians are hulking warriors that use hefty melee weapons to deal up loads of damage. They need to be up close and personal to do their best work, which means they can be vulnerable to enemies with powerful long-ranged attacks.

The Barbarian is a good starter character, mainly because you don’t need to worry too much about positioning or accuracy when you’re playing as them. Get into the fight, deal out your damage and soak up the hits.

Crusader

  • Class: Melee
  • Damage: Hybrid

The Crusader is a knight that uses both physical and magical damage to harm their foes. They’re also good at playing supporting roles, using buffs and debuffs to help out their party when things get tough. Think of them in similar terms as a paladin.

Crusaders suffer the same ranged fragility as the Barbarian, and they’re a little more complex to get to grips with too. If you’re planning to play with others regularly, though, the Crusader makes a sensible choice.

Demon Hunter

  • Class: Ranged
  • Damage: Physical

The Demon Hunter uses ranged weapons like bows and guns to deal loads of damage from far away. They’re particularly good at focusing on single targets, and repositioning themselves to make sure they’re not in harms way.

On the flip side of that the Demon Hunter is pretty squishy and can get ganked pretty easily if things go wrong. They’re also not super strong as part of a team. Try this one for a more challenging solo experience.

Monk

  • Class: Melee
  • Damage: Physical

The monk uses divine powers to deal out massive amounts of damage to large groups of enemies. They’re fleet of foot and particularly adept at crowd control, but they can also play support and keep large mobs exactly where they want them.

While the Monk is strong against groups, they’re not great against single enemies. And while they’re versatile, using the Monk just right can be a complex task that requires timing and well-ordered strikes. If you want a melee character with a steep learning curve, go for the Monk.

Wizard

  • Class: Ranged
  • Damage: Magical

Wizards use arcane energy to attack and hinder their foes, combining ranged attacks with crowd control to keep their enemies at bay. Inevitably, they’re pretty fragile when anyone gets close, but if you’re playing the Wizard right, no one should get anywhere near you.

The Wizard’s cooldowns can be pretty egregious, and while you can drop massive AoE spells, you’re vulnerable while they charge back up again. The Wizard is definitely better as part of a group, and you’ll need to learn the most effective way to use their spells if you want to succeed.

Necromancer

  • Class: Summoning
  • Damage: Magical

The Necromancer’s main role is summoning up undead creatures to attack their enemies. You can buff your units as well, making them ever more powerful, but you’re going to have to think about positioning because the Necromancer has limited mobility.

Playing as the Necromancer takes a lot of work and concentration, and you really need to be on your game to get the most out of the character. But they have ridiculously good crowd control and DPS when you do get the hang of them.
