GENERAL TIPS

  • This game does not have a timer. You can enjoy the game at your own pace.
  • When you begin playing, you will be taken to a map. The instructions tell you to right-click your mouse to enter the next location. You actually have to left-click in order to access it.
  • Once you’re in the main screen, you can click on the word "MAP" on the lower right side, and you will be able to access all open locations for that level.
  • You don’t have to complete a location before moving on to the next one. It is OK to toggle between several locations.
  • Please keep in mind that a lot of objects are mislabelled. If you get stuck and can’t find an object, use a hint. Sometimes a hint will be the only thing that will let you advance in the game.
  • Clicking randomly in the scene will cause the scene to go dark for a few seconds.
  • There is a decent variety of mini-games in Detective Agency. If you’re stuck or don’t feel like playing it, just click on the "HELP" button. It will bring up a new set of instructions but it will also have a "SKIP GAME" option at the end of the instructions. Just click on that to exit that mini-game.

HINTS / USING MAGNIFYING GLASS

  • You will start the game with one hint. In order to gain more hints, you have to find the small magnifying glasses in the scene.
  • There are about 5 or 6 magnifying glasses in each scene, so you will have plenty of hints. Your hints will accumulate from level to level, however, you will be capped at 20 hints.
  • The hint system in this game takes a little getting used to. Click on the magnifying glass icon on the lower right side of the scene. Drag the magnifying glass all over the scene.
  • To use the magnifying glass, you have to look at the color and listen to the sound it makes as you move it around the scene. When the trail is cold, the magnifier will flash slowly and the beeps will be far and few in between.
  • As you get closer to the item you’re looking for, the beeping will become more intense. Once the magnifier turns a solid green and the beeping is very fast, click on it because that is the exact location of the item you are looking for.
  • I also found that if you use the magnifying glass to look for an object and you decide not to click on that item, you do not lose the hint if you put the magnifier back. To put the magnifier back, just click in the wrong spot and you will not lose a hint. You could basically use 1 hint through the whole game.
