The circle of resources

Resources are all-important in the Command & Conquer games, and Timberium Alliances is no different. The green Tiberium is used for construction, building and repairs in the base area, while the blue Crystals are used for defenses and the army. Power is used as support to Tiberium and Crystals, but in lower quantities.

Here are some tips on most effectively setting up your resource production:

  • Upgrade the Tiberium and Crystal harvesters as soon as possible to level 5 before focusing on other buildings. Always try to upgrade the harvesters in equal steps.
  • The refinery that produces credits, while important, can usually be kept one level behind the harvesters.
  • While you will still need Power, it’s not as important as the other resources, so you can upgrade the harvesters a few levels higher before upgrading the power plant to match
  • Do not forget to sufficiently upgrade your storage space before it fills up. You can always check when it fills up by hovering over the resource amount on top of the screen.

Defending your base

In the Defense area, you can build your base’s defense. When another player tries to invade your base, they will need to go through here first, so make sure you make it as hard as possible for them. Besides your base’s natural defenses, such as scrubs, swamps and woods, you can also build walls to slow down the enemy. The more you slow them down, the longer they are open to be shot at by your defensive units.

By hovering over a defensive unit, you can see its reach. Always make sure you try and have as much terrain covered as possible, so that the enemy forces can’t slip in through an opening in your defenses.

Effectively defending your base is more then simply building a good defense though. The layout of your base can also make a difference. For one, make sure that you don’t cluster the important buildings together. As one offensive unit can attack in three lanes, clustering buildings will allow an attacker to attack more buildings with the same unit.

 Tiberium Alliances

There are two important buildings you will want to protect as much as possible: the Defense Facility, and your Support Building. The first is responsible for repairing your troops in between attacks, and the second launches an attack on any invading forces, putting a dent in their attack right from the start. Make sure you place these at the very top of your base, so they are hardest to reach for enemy forces.

To make sure these buildings are hardest to destroy, you will want to make sure that the columns below these buildings are hardest for the attackers to pass. Make sure that these columns are well defended in the defense area, and that there are other buildings in the base area to take the first blows of an attack.

The key to a successful attack is planning

As much thought as we’ve put into defending our base, other players will also be able to do the same, so you will want to plan well to still end up victorious.

You are able to send in your forces in several different waves, each 10 seconds apart. While necessary when you have more attacking forces than columns in one wave, there is also a tactical advantage to be gained. For instance, if there are MG nests near the bottom of the battlefield, sending in your infantry first would mean certain death. Instead, send in your other forces first to take out the MG nests. This way you will not put yourself at a disadvantage, and your weaker forces will live longer to fight.

Using waves can also be a good way to even out the effects of environmental issues that slow you down. As it is most beneficial to have your troops arrive at a target simultaneously, sending one vehicle 10 seconds later can mean you will have double the firepower attack together.

 Tiberium Alliances

Your first target should always be the Defense Facility, and if the target base has one, a Support Building. When the Defense Facility is down, defensive structures and troops will not be repaired, making the base easier to take. Depending on how heavy the defenses are, make sure you send out enough troops in the neighboring columns, and if possible in more waves, to ensure destruction of the facility.

The world around you

Finding bases to attack is not that hard, with bases of both other players and the Forgotten scattered around the world. Knowing which bases pose which threats, however, can make your campaign a lot easier.

 Tiberium Alliances

  • Player’s base: Players just like you. Depending on how smart the player is, and how much time they put in their base, these can be the hardest targets, but also give you the most resources.
  • Forgotten Camp: A basic base of the Forgotten. Relatively easy to take over.
  • Forgotten Outpost: A more secured base of the Forgotten. While harder to take over, it also has more resources for you to loot.
  • Ruins: A player’s base that has been attacked and defeated by other players. It takes up to 24 hours before a ruined base can be attacked again.
  • Base with a gold crate icon: This Forgotten base has a Supply Crate. Destroy the Defense HQ to receive a random item.
  • Base with smoke coming from it: This base is under attack, and has already been weakened by another player. Wait for that player to weaken the base even more, or go in to finish the job yourself.

More tips and tricks

  • When attacking other players, it can usually take 3 to 4 attacks to capture the base. Because you don’t want other players to come in and finish the attack, leaving you with all the work and them with all the reward, it is best to wait for the Command Points to fully recharge after your first attack. This way, you will be able to carry out all the attacks in short succession and make sure no other player can attack in the meantime.
  • The further away a base is, the more Command Points it will cost you to attack. Attack the nearest bases first.
  • Research Points are earned by destroying a base’s defense HQ. The higher the base’s level, the more Research Points you gain.
  • Supply points automatically generate, and can be used to purchase extra resources, credits or command points. Don’t forget you have these!
  • If you’ve made friends and allies, click on your own base to ‘set support’ and help protect their base from attacks.
  • Earning enough research points and credits for research can take a lot of time, but having a varied arsenal at your disposal can make all the difference in the world.
