CityVille Hometown – Game Introduction

CityVille Hometown is an iPhone game developed by Zynga that takes the world of CityVille and puts it in your pocket. Gamezebo’s CityVille Hometown strategy guide and walkthrough will provide you with a quick start guide, tips and tricks, hints and cheats to help you build a vibrant town.

Quick Start Guide

Getting Started

  • CityVille Hometown can be downloaded for free from the Apple app store by clicking the “Free – Play Now” link at the top of this page.
  • When you first begin, Kate will help you out by giving you some goals to explain the basics of the game.
  • You’ll continue to receive goals through the rest of the game, both from Kate and other citizens of your town. Completing goals will help you gain experience and unlock new content.

  • You can access current goals either by selecting the “Goals” menu option in the lower left-hand corner of the screen, or by directly interacting with citizens of your town. When you see a character with a thought bubble over their head, tap on it, and a menu will pop up outlining the details of that particular goal. Once you complete a goal by satisfying all of those details you’ll earn whatever bonuses (items, money, experience, etc.) that are associated with that particular goal.

Housing and Population

  • In order to increase the population of your town you’ll need to purchase housing, which can be done in the market.
  • To access the market select the “Menu” in the lower right hand corner of the screen. You’ll see four icons. The third from the top, which looks like a storefront, will take you to the market.
CityVille Hometown
  • Each house costs a certain amount of coins and holds a certain number of people. Once you build a home, new or existing citizens will move in. In the case of new citizens, you’ll have the option to either give them a name or use the pre-existing one.
  • At pre-determined intervals you can visit each home in your town, which will earn you experience points. You’ll know when a home can be visited when it has a thought bubble full of Zs over top of it. To visit, simply tap the house.
CityVille Hometown
  • In order to continue increasing your population, you’ll also need to build community buildings. If you don’t, you’ll reach a point where you can’t build any more houses until a new community building goes up.
CityVille Hometown
  • Community buildings work much like a house, but with one important difference. In order to complete a community building you’ll need to collect special items that can only be acquired if your friends send them to you as gifts. If you can’t acquire these items or don’t want to wait, you can instead opt to pay either the game’s premium or in-game currency to complete the building.

Farming and Businesses

  • Putting businesses into your town will help you earn money. These, too, can be purchased from the “Businesses” section of the market.
  • There are several important factors to consider for each individual business: the up front cost, how much money it will pay out in rent, and how many supplies it requires.
  • The smaller the amount of supplies that a business requires, the faster it will be available to pay rent.

  • When you see a business with a big coin floating over top of it this means that there’s rent money to collect. Once that’s done you’ll see a create with a number under it floating over top of the building. This means that the business needs to be re-supplied, and the number indicates how many supplies it holds.
  • To get supplies you’ll need to farm. To do this you’ll first need plots of land, which can be purchased under the “Farming” section of the market.
CityVille Hometown
  • Once you tap on an empty plot a menu will pop up showing the different crop options. Each crop costs a certain amount to purchase, takes a certain amount of time to ripen, and provides a certain number of supplies that can then be used for your businesses. If you don’t harvest crops in time they will whither and die.
CityVille Hometown
  • You have a limited amount of storage space for supplies. When you reach this maximum number you won’t be able to harvest any more crops. To increase the number, purchase either silos or barns from the “Farming” section of the market.

Socializing

  • The two icons above the market in the “Menu” are for messages and interacting with friends.
  • The first icon, which is represented by a Z, is where you can check any in-game messages you may have.
CityVille Hometown
  • The second icon allows you to manage your friends. In order to add friends you’ll first need to connect to your Facebook account. You can then add any of your Facebook friends who are also playing the game.
  • You can send gifts to friends once per day, either in the form of additional energy or items necessary for building community buildings. At the the top of the screen in the “Free Gifts” section you’ll see a timer that lets you know how long you have to wait before you can send another gift.
CityVille Hometown
  • You can also visit your friends and take a tour of their towns. This also can only be done once per day and will earn you one energy point for each town visited. So the more friends you have, the more energy you can get.

Currency and Expansions

CityVille Hometown

  • You’ll find very quickly that your city needs to continue to grow in size in order to accommodate the growing population. Thankfully you can increase the physical size of your city by purchasing plots of land from the “Expansions” section of the market.
  • Each expansion will cost a certain amount of premium or in-game currency. You can pay either one you prefer. You’ll also find that certain expansions require certain population levels, so you may need to buy some houses before you expand the size of the city.
CityVille Hometown
  • There are two types of currency in the game: coins, which you earn from businesses and by completing goals, and cash, which is the premium currency. You can buy additional cash from the “Currency” section of the market. The cost ranges from $0.99 to $99.99.
