GENERAL TIPS

  • Each level has a different set of objectives, from breaking tiles to matching sharks to a host of other things. Make sure to check out the objectives at the beginning of each level because sometimes there can be more than one. In later levels it’s the norm to have at least 3 objectives so you want to make sure you meet them all.

  • Each tile on the board serves a purpose. You can look on the board to see which ones help you fill different tasks. Gold coins help you finance buildings so you need to match as many of those as possible. Other tiles help you obtain power-ups, like the hourglass, the hammer and the pirates. If you’re falling behind on a level, concentrate on making more matches with the tile that you need the most.

  • You will earn a Time Bonus according to how much time you have left on the clock. Use your time bonus even if you do not need it since it will help you score extra points at the end of the round. The more time that is left on your clock, the higher your time bonus will be. Making matches of 4 or more tiles will make you earn extra money and resources. The larger the match the higher your score will be.

  • It is important to employ your citizens as soon as possible because if they are not employed they will steal your gold. The number of unemployed citizens is located on the lower left side of the map. The higher that number is the more money they will steal from you. You will get a summary at the end of each level on how much they’ve stolen from you.

  • You can build a jail to keep your unemployed citizens until you can get work for them. The jail does not hold that many prisoners so you have to make sure to give everybody a job as soon as possible. If you’re short on citizens for another project you can release the prisoners from their cell by clicking on the jail from the main map. You can also take citizens from other buildings and transfer them to another project or building as needed.

  • You can keep making matches even though the board is still active. There are times that the perfect match is available but the board is still moving. Make that match quickly before those tiles fall elsewhere.

  • At times there are a lot of things going on and it can be hard to see a match. When that happens, take a moment and look at the board, your next move will start flashing.

  • In some levels there will be sections of the board that have double locks. Depending on how large a section is there are several ways to take care of it. If the area is small enough that a bomb can cover the majority of it then use 2 bombs to unlock all pieces. If the area is pretty large, make as many matches as you can first, use the army men and then halfway through the game use both bombs.

  • For levels that have long rows of locked tiles it is best to use your ships in order to unlock them. Make as many matches as you can and when you get stuck use your ship power-up. It will help you get the hard to reach pieces in the corner.

  • If you only need one match to finish a level and you don’t have the right piece, make matches on the opposite side of the board. This will ensure that your pieces don’t move until you can pick up the icon you need to make that last match.

  • If you’re running low on time and you have a choice between making a match that clears a tile and one that doesn’t, choose the one that does. It may mean not getting a huge match but you will be able to finish your objective faster.

  • In Level 53 all you have to do is match soldiers, no tile breaking or tile clearing. At the moment that you have the most soldiers on the board, press on the lightning bolt and you will finish the level faster because you will eliminate all available soldiers.

  • At the beginning of a level, before all the pieces fall in place, you will have a clear view of the board showing you where all the locked tiles are. Glance at it quickly so you can visualize where they are. Once all the tiles have fallen into place it can be hard to see where everything is.

  • You don’t have to buy a building as soon as it’s available, wait and purchase the building that will be most advantageous to you at the time. I concentrated on buying buildings that would give me power-ups first and then concentrated on the ones that would boost my score. If you have enough money you can buy more than 2 buildings or upgrades at a time.

  • Keep your dock repaired, your bombs filled and lightning bolts charged. At the end of each chapter if you’ve used any of the above you should always go back and restock them, especially as you approach higher levels since you will really need all of them.

  • There are different types of power-ups during the game, some unused ones will rollover to the next level and some will not. The ones that do not rollover are the ones that you obtain by making matches that ultimately refill each power-up. These are the ones that are located at the bottom right side of the screen, like the hammer, the army and the hourglass. You might as well use them before the level ends since you can’t take them with you.

  • The power-ups that do rollover are the ones that can be purchased at the beginning of a level. These include the cannonball, the ships and the lightning bolt. Whichever ones you use can be repurchased on the main screen of the island; they are on the top right side of the page.

    POWER-UPS

Each time you make a match the icons will fly towards the item that they are helping fill.

If you pick up a power-up and decide not to use it, you can just click it back in place and save it for later.

Certain tiles, like the glowing ones are immune to power-ups, you have to make a match in order to eliminate them.

    Cannonball

  • Cannonballs can destroy a large amount of tiles locked and unlocked at one time. If a tile is double locked you will have to use 2 bombs.

  • When placed over a set of tiles, it will highlight exactly how many tiles it will destroy.

  • Move it around to make sure you’ve made the best possible match, especially in those hard to reach corners.

  • You can purchase up to 2 extra bags that can hold cannonballs, to purchase an extra bag you have to save some money. The first bag will cost $3500 and the second bag will cost over $9,000.

  • It may sound costly but the cannonballs will really help you get out of a lot of tight jams. I bought the extra bags as soon as I was able to afford them.

    Ships

  • In order to obtain the ship power-up you must first build a Dock.

  • Once you build the Dock you can purchase additional ships as the upgrades become available, up to a maximum of 3.

  • Each ship will allow you to destroy a whole row of tiles.

  • If you use any of the ships during a level you will have to go back and repair it in order to use it on the next level.

  • Repairs are easy to do, just click on the dock icon on the top right corner and it will tell you how much it costs to repair each ship.

    Lightning bolt

  • In order for you to obtain a lightning bolt power-up you must first build a watch tower.

  • The lightning bolt will destroy all the tiles of one kind on the board.

  • The lightning bolt is a great tool to use when you need to finish an assignment during a level. Pick the piece that you need the most and it will help you finish a level faster.

  • Before you begin the next round make sure that you purchase the lightning bolt or it will not be there as you play your next level.

    Hourglass

  • It is the first icon on the lower right hand side.

  • You obtain the hourglass by making matches on the board with the tiles that have the hourglass icon on them.

  • The faster you make your matches, the faster it will fill up.

  • The hourglass helps you add additional time to your game play. You start off with an additional 15 seconds on your clock with your first upgrade.

  • You have to upgrade 2 more times in order to gain additional time, 30 and 45 seconds extra consecutively.

    Army

  • The army power-up is the middle icon that is located at the bottom right corner of your screen. When activated, it will destroy a certain percentage of your board at a time.

  • The pieces that are destroyed are random and you don’t have any control over what the army destroys.

  • You will start with it destroying 15 % of the board when you first get it, additional upgrades will give you up to 45 % destruction of the board.

    Hammer

  • The hammer is the last icon on the bottom right hand corner.

  • It can destroy a tile at a time when you first receive it and it can be upgraded to smash several tiles at once.

  • The hammer is best used in hard to reach corners, on locked tiles and when you have just one last piece left to destroy on the board.

    BUILDINGS

  • As buildings become available you have the choice of whether to buy them at that time or save your money and buy something else later.

  • Some buildings can take anywhere from 1 level up to 3 levels before they are completed. Which means their powers will not take effect until the building is built.

  • As buildings are completed you will see a sign pop-up indicating its completion.

  • You can click on a building to obtain valuable information about it. It will tell you how much it will cost to build, how many citizens are needed and how long it will take.

  • Some buildings have additional skills and bonuses, like the cannon shop, the dock and the watch tower, read below for a brief explanation of each building.

Dock – Depending upon the level of your upgrade, you can have between 1 to 3 ships available.

Farm – It will help you get 2 additional citizens per level.

Garden – After the garden has been built, you will obtain 1 additional citizen per level which in turn will help you grow your population faster.

Jail – Will stop some thieves from stealing your gold. Build a jail as soon as possible so that you can minimize the amount of gold that is stolen from you each day.

Jeweller – Every time you collect a gold coin it will increase to 3 times its value.

Lodge – Gives you a small army that destroys a percentage of random tiles on your board. The first one gives you 15% destruction of the board and the last upgrade gives you a 45 % clearance.

Mine – For every piece of gold you collect it will count as six instead of one.

Rum maker – You will receive an additional 2 citizens per level after obtaining the rum maker plus you will have a 25% gain towards your reputation.

Smith – Provides you with a stronger hammer each time you upgrade it. The first hammer will break one tile and the last upgrade breaks several tiles at once.

Tavern – The hourglass will give you additional minutes each time it’s activated. The first hourglass upgrades will give you 15, 30 and 45 seconds with each upgrade.

Treasure vault – It gives you an additional 10% more gold after each level.

Watch tower – You will obtain the Lightning bolt, which will destroy all the pieces of the same kind on the board.
