Getting Started
Baby Steps
When Ellie let’s you take your first baby steps by yourself, your city is a mess. Besides the goals the game gives you, make sure you clean up the city so you can rebuild it. Start by clearing vacant lots (the orange arrows) and the burnt down buildings (the red arrows).
Keeping the City Safe
Whether you just started or are already progressing nicely, when you come back to your game, there is this whole city waiting for you to keep safe. Regardless of what you’re planning on doing next, make sure you keep your city safe by protecting businesses (the red skull icon), killing thugs walking your streets (the red arrows), and collecting cash and resources.
If any of your city’s buildings or businesses are under attack by thugs, make sure you protect them (by simply clicking on it) before the timer runs out, or you’ll have to recapture it later from the thugs.
Tip: Throughout the game, you will be given several goals to accomplish. Sometimes, this includes taking out an important mobster, which can take a certain amount of time to prepare. While the count-down timer looming overhead gives you a sense of urgency, it only tells you when you can perform the task. Being ‘too late’ for the timer to reach zero does not have any consequences, and you can just accomplish the task whenever you get back to the game.
Building the City and Increasing Your Influence
When the care of the city is entrusted to you, it’s a dump. To strengthen your position, you will want to increase your influence and expand the city. Rather than just building whatever you want, the game wants you to create a balance between residents and businesses, which is reflected in your influence and your capacity.
By building residences, your get more residents, who pay you money. This all increases your influence. When you look at a residence building in the shop, you can see how much it will increase your influence.
If we take the two images above as an example, my influence capacity is 485, while my current influence is 320. In this scenario, I can build the projects, which add 40 influence, bringing my total to 360. However, if my influence was already 450, and I wanted to build projects, the 40 additional influence (450 + 40 = 490) would go over the capacity, so I wouldn’t be able to build the projects at that point.
That is where the community buildings come in. By building community items, you increase the capacity of your influence, which allows you to build more residences. Unlike residences however, you will need to (one time per building) staff your community buildings. You can ask your friends to help you by filling these positions, or you can use the CC bonus credits that you have earned. Bonus credits are primarily earned by leveling up and completing goals.
Businesses: Making Money
While your residences earn you money, the best way to make money is by building or taking over businesses. In order to make money from a business, you need to give tit supplies. After a certain amount of time, depending on the business, you can pick up your cash.
While there are already a number of businesses in your city when you start, not all are immediately available to run and you will be asked to “come back later for a job.” These businesses will be unlocked when you are at a higher level.
Supplies
There are three way of collecting supplies: order truck drivers or boat captains to bring you supplies, steal from the occasional supply truck driving around your city, or help your friends by speeding up their supply trucks.
