Check out our walkthrough for Build-a-lot 3: Passport to Europe.

CAMPAIGN MODE

  • You will start the game in Campaign Mode. You will visit a variety of towns and neighborhoods performing tasks for the local mayors.

CASUAL MODE

  • You will be given a specific goal in this mode and you can use a strategy of your choosing in order to beat the game.

TABS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN

  • There are 4 tabs at the bottom of the screen, each tab serves a different purpose and will help you reach your goals for the day.
  • It’s important to pay attention to what the tabs say at all times because they keep you informed of the resources that you have available.

MONEY AND GOALS (Green tab)

  • The Money and Goals tab is located at the bottom of the screen. These tabs show you what you need to do to complete the level and how much money you have available to do so.
  • You can look in this tab if you want to know what remaining goals you have in a level. If you don’t want to click on the tab you can also look on the top right-hand-side of your screen and see your goals there.
  • When you click on the tab, there are 2 different meters at the bottom. The Potential Rental Income shows you how much money you will have once certain works in progress are finished. The Current Income meter shows how much money you are actually taking in.

WORKERS (Yellow Tab)

  • The workers tab lets you know how many workers you have in your workforce. It also lets you know how many workers are out on the job site and how many are available to work other jobs.
  • Once you click the tab, the yellow hard hat icons are showing you how many employees you can afford to train with the money you have on hand. If the hard hats are grayed out, it means that you have to wait until you can afford to train more of them.

MATERIALS (Red Tab)

  • The materials tab lets you know how many materials you have on hand. It also tells you how much it will cost you to buy additional materials.
  • You can buy varying amounts of materials as needed but it is always best to buy materials in larger quantities because you save more money in the long run.

BLUEPRINTS (Blue Tab)

  • You will need the blueprint of a building before you can construct it.
  • The blueprint tab is located at the bottom of the screen. When you click on it, you can see which blueprints you own and which ones you need to buy.
  • You will only have-to buy a blueprint once. Once you’ve bought it you can use it in the rest of the levels. You will not be allowed to buy blueprints ahead of time.

GENERAL TIPS

  • You can replay a level at any time. Once you complete the level you will be given the choice to (1) Replay Level (2) Continue (3) View Passport. Click on Replay Level if you want to get a better score.
  • You can also start a level over in the middle of the game. If you know that you are not going to complete the level with super efficiency, then start the level over in the middle of the game. Click on "menu" and then click on "Restart" and you will get a new game with a different layout.
  • If you complete a level before the meter reaches the notch in the green bar, you will earn a special star ribbon for completing the level super efficiently.
  • You can do multiple jobs at once. You don’t have to wait for one job to be completed before you start the next one. The best way to accomplish multiple tasks is by hiring plenty of workers.
  • There are times that you may want to upgrade, repair or do other things to your property but you’re not able to, it’s because you’re lacking something. You may not have enough money, materials or workers. Move your mouse cursor over any given button and look at the info displayed, when you hover over a button it will display the material and worker requirements on the left.
  • If you’re ever confused about which houses you’ve painted, all you have to do is click on the house and see if the paint icon says "paint" or "re-paint". If it says "re-paint" then it means that house has already been painted.
  • It’s cheaper to build a house than to buy one that’s completed.
  • Click on the text bubbles if you want the person to stop talking.

STRATEGY TIPS

  • Know when to buy and when to sell. It all depends on the goals listed at the beginning of every level. If you try to sell your house at the wrong time you will not be able to get the maximum value for it.
  • Listing it when no other properties are up for sale will yield you the best offer. When there are several properties for sale at the time of your listing, the offers for the house will be lower than what they’re worth. Sell one house at a time and when possible wait until there are no other properties up for sale.
  • If you don’t have any empty lots available and you need space to build, it’s best to demolish your smallest property. Just click on the demolish button for the house that you want to destroy and build either a bigger house or a building on that lot instead. This will make sure that you keep your larger properties intact so that you can make the most out of them.
  • You can increase your rental income by building a new house or upgrading an existing one. The best way is to have all the possible upgrades on the biggest property you own. Always try to get the maximum stars allowable so that you can maximize your rental income.
  • When you’re trying to meet a goal, don’t take too much time to bring the price of a house down. There are times where it’s beneficial for you to low-ball the price of a house and sometimes it’s not.
  • At times you will have to sell some property in order to buy materials and hire extra workers. This is a good way to get your cash flow going in order for you to perform other tasks.
  • Do multiple jobs at once and save yourself a lot of time. You don’t have to wait for one job to finish before you begin another one. Click on a different house to get another job started and as long as you have enough workers and materials the job can be completed.
  • In levels in which you want your property to sell for full price you have to low-ball some of the other properties that come up for sale so that you can take them off the market right away.
  • Place your house on the market just to be able to pay less for a house. As soon as you get your house off the market, unlist your house.

SELLING YOUR HOUSE

  • You can sell any of your properties at any time that you need to raise some cash or when you need to meet a goal.
  • To sell a house, simply click on it and then click on the "SELL" button at the bottom of the page.
  • You will see a "For Sale" sign appear over the house and a number written in blue. The blue number represents how much the house is worth.
  • The house will go up for sale and when an offer is extended, the cell phone will ring. The red price that someone is willing to pay for the house will appear below the cell phone. If that price is acceptable, just click on the green "ACCEPT" button at the bottom of the page.
  • If the offer is not what you were looking for, then just click on "REJECT" and wait for another offer to come in.
  • You cannot collect rent while a house is up for sale.

LOW-BALLING OFFERS

  • You can low-ball the asking price of a house by offering less for the property or by low-balling the offer.

DEADLINE METER

  • There are 2 goals that you can accomplish in this game the blue ribbon and the blue ribbon with the star on it, for completing the level super efficiently.
  • Look at the green meter that is on the top left side of the screen. You will notice that it has a notch at some point of the meter. That notch represents the difference between getting the blue ribbon and finishing the level super efficiently. The whole bar represents how much time you have left to complete that round.

LAST MINUTE GOALS

  • In some of the levels you will be presented with some last minute goals that you need to fulfill before time runs out.
  • These goals will appear in red in the thought bubbles of the mayors of each town.

BUILDINGS

  • There are 4 buildings that you can own in this game, the Workshop, the Garden Center, the Sawmill and the World Bank.
  •  All buildings have a negative appeal on the houses in the neighborhood.

WORKSHOP

  • The workshops lower your cost of training additional workers.
  • They have a negative appeal when you build them next to houses.
  • When you own a Workshop you will be able to inspect some houses.
  • In later levels you will be able to send your workers to an Efficiency Training class. That class will make them work much faster which means they will complete the job in less time.
  • To buy the Efficiency Training you will have to make sure that you build the Workshop first and that it stays built in order for them to keep working faster.
  • You can tell which houses are affected by a Workshop by clicking on it. The area that it impacts is the red circle that glows around it.
  • Place the workshop in a corner where there are no other houses, whenever possible.
  • If you place the Workshop in an area in which there’s a house next to it you can also demolish the Workshop at the last minute in order to meet an Appeal goal.
  • You can go ahead and destroy a workshop after you’re done with it and build something else on that spot. This is helpful when you want to meet a last minute goal and you need the land.
  • You should always inspect a house when you build a workshop since you will no longer have to worry about houses needing any more repairs.
  • The inspection is only good until you upgrade, sell or destroy the house.

SAWMILL

  • The Sawmill allows you to buy materials at half the cost. When you have a Sawmill your materials are delivered much faster than if you did not have one.
  • It’s really good to buy them in later levels where you are building larger houses that require a lot more material than usual. The materials tend to get used up pretty quickly, so you want to be able to stock up on as much as you can.

GARDEN CENTERS

  • Once you build a Garden Center you will be able to landscape any house that belongs to you.
  • Each time you landscape a house it raises its Appeal by 5 points.
  • If you have a goal to reach that requires a high Appeal goal adding landscaping to your houses will really help a lot.
  • If you have 5 houses and you landscape each one you will have an extra +25 in Appeal points just for doing that one thing.
  • Once you reach a certain level and you build a Garden Center you will no longer need to do maintenance on your landmarks. That’s why when you have a goal that requires you to build a lot of landmarks you should also build a Garden Center along with it.

WORLD BANK

  • It allows you to collect interest on all of your money.

SERVICES

  • There are certain service buildings that you can place in the neighborhood. These include, the Fire Station, the Police Station, the Post Office and the Hospital.
  • These service buildings include the police station
  • The service buildings do not affect the appeal of the neighborhood.
  • The good thing about these buildings is that they eliminate the need for you to attend to rowdy neighbors, fires in houses and the need to call for an ambulance.
  • When you have the service buildings, the calls will be answered automatically and they reduce the fees that you have to pay when these calls have to be answered.

FIRE STATION

  • When you see smoke coming out of a house it means that you need to call the fire department. Click on the house that has the fire and then click on the "Respond" button so they can put the fire out.

POLICE STATION

  • When you see the icon of a police hat over a house it means that the neighbors are getting rowdy in the neighborhood. Click on the house with the icon and then click "respond" at the bottom of the page.

POST OFFICE

  • When you see a letter over a house, it means that you’ve received some mail.
  • The major benefit to having the Post Office is that you will periodically receive letters that often have money included in them. That money will be added to your total. The money amounts vary and are not that significant but can come in handy.

HOSPITAL

LANDMARKS

  • Landmarks can be built around the neighborhood, they give the surrounding houses a positive appeal. The four landmarks are the Historic Square, the Hedge Maze, the Clock Tower and the Sculpture Garden,
  •  it is best to place the landmarks in between other properties. In other words always try and place landmarks in between 2 other houses.
  • When a landmark is in between 2 houses, it increases the appeal of both houses that touch it at the same time.

BROOM AND DUSTPAN ICON

  • Whenever you see the icon of a broom and a dustpan it means that one of the Landmarks need to be cleaned up. Just click on the landmark itself to get it cleaned up.
  • When you build the Garden Center you will not have to worry about maintaining and cleaning your landmarks.

UPGRADES

  • Upgrading your houses increases your rental incomes. You can upgrade your houses up to 3 times in order to make the most of your rental income.
  • When you make an upgrade, you will see a start at the bottom of each house. Each star represents 1 upgrade.
  • Depending on which level you’re on, you will be able to upgrade your house to a 4-star rating. You’ll need to purchase a permit to upgrade a house to 4 stars, to buy the permit you’ll need to build a sawmill.

RESTORATIONS/RUN-DOWN HOUSES

  • You will have some run-down houses in some of the neighborhoods. These houses bring down the value of the overall neighborhood by giving it a negative appeal rating.
  • You can tell a house is run-down when you see a sad red face next to the house. Once the house is fixed the red face will be gone and the negative appeal will disappear.
  • Run-down houses will not generate rental income until you’ve fixed them and will also have the half the value of a house that is in top shape.
  • To fix a run-down house, click on it first and then click on the "Restore" button at the bottom of the page.

REPAIR/WRENCH ICON

  • When you see the wrench icon appear over a building it means that the house is in need of repair. You cannot collect rent from a house while the wrench icon is present.
  • To repair the house, click on the house and then click on the "Repair" icon at the bottom of the page. As soon as the house is repaired you will be able to start collecting rent again.

NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE APPEALS

  • The appeal rating for the whole neighborhood is displayed on the top left side of the screen. The value of the appeal is determined by adding together the appeal value of every property in the neighborhood.
  • A house with positive Appeal will earn you a higher rental income and add extra value to your house.
  • Things that increase appeal
  • Houses that have a positive appeal will have a yellow smiley face next to them.
  • Painting and landscaping houses increases their appeal.
  • Build your houses with a Landmark in the middle when you want to meet a high Appeal goal. Always build the latest Landmark you bought, since the newer it is the higher the Appeal value will be.
  • Things that decrease appeal
  • A house with a negative appeal (sad red face) will have a lower value and a lower rental income.
  • You will get a negative Appeal when a building is next to a house.
  • If you have a landmark that needs cleaning, it will bring down the appeal of the houses around it until it is cleaned up. You will know that a landmark needs cleaning when you see the dust pan and broom icon over it.

PAINTING

  • You can paint your houses to make them more appealing. When you paint a house you bring up the positive appeal of the neighborhood.
  • Painting takes longer when it has to be done in the rain.
  • If you repaint a house, it will stay fixed for a longer period of time.

INSPECTIONS

  • If you want to spend less time repairing houses, then buy a workshop. The workshop will give your workers the ability to inspect your houses.
  • To inspect a house, click on it and then click on inspect at the bottom of the page. You will be able to tell that a house has been inspected when you see the magnifying glass icon next to it.
  • Once the houses are inspected it will prevent those houses from getting damaged. The only thing that invalidates an inspection is when you upgrade, sell or demolish the house.
  • It is best to inspect the house after you’ve done all possible upgrades, that way you can earn the most money on it and concentrate on your other properties.
  • When elaborate houses like the Chateaus and the Haciendas become damaged, they need to be fixed immediately. When the repairs are not done immediately, the damages will be compounded and the repairs will require more workers and materials.

WRENCH ICON

  • Whenever you see a wrench icon it means that your property is in need of fixing. Click on the property and then on the Repair tab to start fixing that house.
  • You can prevent a house from needing repairs by getting it inspected. In order to inspect a property you must first build a workshop.
  • Re-painting your house once in a while can keep the house from needing repairs longer.
  • If you don’t fix your houses right away, the damage will compound itself. The longer it stays without being fixed the more materials and workers you will need.

  • TIP FOR LAYOUT: The game has several layouts for each level. If you get a layout that you don’t like, keep clicking on "Restart" until you get the layout that works best for that level. I would sometimes hit Restart several times so I could get the isolated spots available so that I could use those spots for my buildings (Sawmill, Garden Center, Workshop and The World Bank).

  • Click on any empty lot and then click on the "construct house" tab at the bottom.

  • Buy the first house that comes up for sale, it should be a $50,000 house.
  • Click on the house and then look at the bottom of the screen and click on the "Buy" button. Your rental income is automatically increased each time you buy a house.

  • (Super Efficiency Star Solution)
  • The garden Center should be on the isolated lot that is on the lower right side of the page. You want to place it there because that is the only spot in which it will not affect the appeal of the other houses.
  • If there is a property already there, buy it and demolish it so you can place your building on there. If you already own that property demolish it even if it is a Venetian house that you need.
  • Start building a Venetian on an empty lot.
  • Buy the smaller run-down houses, demolish them and build a Venetian house instead.
  • When buying properties that come up for sale in this level, put your other houses up for sale at the same time and then "low-ball" the offer so you can pay less for your houses. You have to make sure that there are at least 4 houses up for sale at that time or your low-ball offer will not be accepted.
  • Start building all the Venetians at once. With the materials that you started with will give you enough to build the Venetians that you need.
  • Now you need to sell one of your houses, make sure that when you sell one that it is not one of the Painted Venetians that you need for your goal.
  • You will own a Chalet at the beginning of the game. Restore, paint it and upgrade it to 3 stars and sell it right away. you will get $204, 750 for it, if you sell it while no other houses are up for sale. Sell it after you’ve made some rental income off of it so you can earn more money.

  • Train 1 extra worker so you can build the Garden center.
  • Buy 1,000 materials and upgrade all your houses so you can earn more money to finance the material for the building of the garden Center.
  • Upgrade your most expensive houses first.

  • At the beginning of the game yo do not own any houses whatsoever. The first thing you want to do is build a Chalet so you can start building some income.
  • Paint the Chalet and start upgrading it and painting it. if you upgrade it to 3 stars right away, you would have done away with one of your goals already.
  • As soon as that first chalet is upgraded to 3 stars and is painted start building another Chalet in an empty spot.
  • At this point you have very little material left so buy 1,000 units.
  • Upgrade and paint your second Chalet.
  • Build one more Chalet on an empty lot and do the same as the other two, paint them and upgrade it to 3 stars.
  • Your other goal of rent is now met as well.

  • The best landmark to build at this point is the Hedge Maze because it adds +10 appeal to the houses that are next to it. You can only build one of these at a time so make sure that you place it in the right spit
  • In order to bring the appeal up you must buy all the broken houses and either fix them and paint them or demolish them and build something else on top of it.
  • You could also buy a garden Center and landscape the properties for an extra +5 appeal.
  • The services don’t affect your appeal so you can place them anywhere. However, since we want to increase appeal with the hedges, it is best to place the services in a corner.
  • Let’s Get Started
  • Train 2 employees and build a Hacienda, upgrade it twice and then sell it right away for $720,000.
  • Buy 1,000 materials.

LEVEL 42-GREECE

Goals (1)1 Workshop (2) 1 Sawmill (3) +200 Appeal (4) last minute goal of $20,000,000 cash.

  • There are lots of houses with negative appeals in this level. You have to make sure that you buy up all these properties and that you restore and paint them or that you demolish them and start fresh.
  • There’s a last minute goal of 20 million cash so you need to start building your fortune early on so we will need to construct a couple of banks to pass the level.
  • Let’s get started:
  • Hire 2 workers
  • Demolish one of your Cottages and build a Hacienda. Upgrade it once, do not paint and sell it right away for $660,000.
  • Buy 100 materials.
  • While the Hacienda is on the market start building your Sawmill in one of the corners. Build the Sawmill on the end lot because it has a bigger negative appeal that the Workshop does.
  • It is easier to get a positive appeal from a house that is next to a Workshop because it only gives out a minus 5 appeal.
  • You could also place a landmark next to the buildings so that the negative appeal does not affect the houses.
  • As soon as the Sawmill is built buy 10,000 materials.
  • Build the Workshop next to the Sawmill.
  • Hire 2 workers and build a Chateau.
  • Buy Efficiency Training for $75,000.
  • Start buying the cheapest properties and build some Chateaus.
  • In the meantime buy the material needed to complete the jobs. Always buy the maximum amount because it saves you money because you get more materials for less money.
  • As soon as you can afford it hire a Financial Advisor for the World Bank. Click on the bank and then click on the "Financial Advisor" tab at the bottom of the screen.
  • When you click on the Financial Advisor the bank will pay you interest on your money periodically.
  • As soon as you can afford it hire an additional 15 workers, which will give you a total of 24 workers in total.
  • Keep building as many Chateaus as you can. Upgrade all of them to 3 stars and paint them. Always inspect your properties to keep them from needing repairs.
  • Try to make sure that all your Premier lots have Chateaus on them so you can make the most money.
  • Build a second World Bank and place it in between 2 other houses. You will demolish both your banks before the level ends and then you will build some Landmarks.

LEVEL 43-GREECE

Goals (1) 6 White Cottages (2) 5 White Venetians (3) 4 White Haciendas (4) Rent $145,000

  • You are required to build 15 houses in this level and there are only 15 lots total. Basically, every lot will be occupied at the end.
  • Make sure that you concentrate on building the Haciendas first since they take the longest to build and they will generate you the most income.
  • Demolish any houses that you cannot use like the Dormer’s and the Chalets. They are not part of your requirements so there’s no need to keep them unless you just want to generate temporary rental income.
  • You have to work super fast in this level, you have to be one step ahead at all times. Make sure that you take the time to low-ball the prices of the houses so you can afford more of them at once.
  • Let’s get started:
  • Build a Dormer on a non-Premier lot, upgrade it 3 times.
  • Buy the Venetian on the Premier Lot as soon as it becomes available ($90,000) and paint it white. Upgrade it to 3 stars.
  • Sell the Dormer for $409,500.
  • Buy 1,000 materials and build a Sawmill on a non-Premier spot.
  • Buy 5,000 materials and then build a Workshop in another spot (You can demolish these closer to the end when you’re ready to build the Cottages)
  • Once the Workshop is completed hire 2 workers and build 2 Haciendas first, place them on the Premier lots. There are 2 other Haciendas that are already built so you can also buy them later.
  • Paint the Haciendas white and then upgrade them to 3 stars.
  • Buy the Efficiency Training and hire 7 more workers, for a total of 14 as soon as you can afford them.
  • Build a Venetian on the last Premier lot.
  • Inspect all your houses to keep them from needing repairs. Upgrade all houses to 3 stars so you can make your rental income.
  • Low-ball all of the prices of the houses by putting your own houses up for sale before you buy any properties. This will allow you to pay less for any house.
  • By this time you should be making a good rental income. Buy and demolish all your Dormers and Chalets, build the necessary Venetians and Cottages in those spots.
  • Buy the last 2 Haciendas last since you will need to have enough money to afford them.
  • Buy some materials and demolish your Sawmill and place a Cottage on there instead.
  • Demolish your Workshop and place the last Cottage in its place.
  • ALTERNATE TIPS FOR THIS LEVEL
  • If you’re having a hard time getting things done quickly, you may want to place three Haciendas on the premier lots so you can build income faster.
  • You may also consider buying a bank and getting a financial advisor so you can earn interest on your money.

LEVEL 44-GREECE

Goals (1) No negative house appeal (2) No empty lots (3) 2 Banks (4) Rent $600,000

  • Since we need to have to banks in this level I think it is best to place them next to each other so they don’t give out any negative appeal to too many houses at once.
  • Once you build the banks place a Landmark next to them.
  • Almost every house has a negative appeal in this level so you will have to buy all of them and demolish them.
  • You should ONLY build Chateaus in this level and upgrade them 3 times and paint them. That is the best way to get the rental income that you need.
  • Let’s get started:
  • Restore your Dormer, upgrade it 3 times and paint it.
  • If you see some small dilapidated houses come up for sale buy them.
  • Sell the Dormer for $409,500.
  • Build a Sawmill with the materials that you have left.
  • Buy 1,000 materials and build a Workshop next to the Sawmill.
  • While the buildings are being built, keep buying the small properties and demolish them.
  • As soon as the Workshop is completed buy the Efficiency Training and hire 6 more workers.
  • Buy some materials and start building several Chateaus back to back so you can start building your $600,000 Rental Income.
  • Build the banks next to the Sawmill and or Workshop.
  • In between everything else keep buying the maximum amount of materials that you need and hire a total of at least 23 workers.
  • Only build Chateaus in this level, all other properties should be demolished.
  • Make a row with only the Sawmill, the workshop and the two banks all in a row and then place a landmark at the end of them.
  • By the end of the level I had 13 Chateaus, most of them were upgraded to 3 stars.
