Battlejack is a fun and fast paced Blackjack/RPG mash-up from Nexon M. It’s fairly easy to learn but there’s plenty going on under the hood, meaning you might want a helping hand or two.

The Basics

• Battlejack is super simple when it comes to learning how to attack. Your aim every time is to dish out cards that eventually add up to 21. The tricky part is getting there.
• Cards are dished out randomly with an Ace equalling either 1 or 10 (depending on what you need). Oftentimes, if your current number is pretty low, you want to keep dealing cards.
• What about when you get into the teens, though? That’s where things get tricky.
• Generally, if the number is at about 12-14, I’d advise taking another card. Statistically, you’re more likely to get a low enough number to not go over 21.
• When you’re at 15 or 16, it’s a total judgement call and guesswork – to an extent.
• Anything over 17, and you want to play it safe. Attack with that number and be happy with what you’ve got.
• If you manage to hit the mythical 21 – you’re able to cast area effect attacks at your enemies.

• Otherwise, you want to target the same enemy each time so you can grind them down. There’s no point having a bunch of enemies that are weakened health wise, but can hit back just as hard as usual.
• Don’t forget that your heroes have special abilities too. Look out for special icons and you can unleash extra powerful attacks every once in a while.
• Also, keep an eye out for green and red arrows. These indicate which heroes offer a particular strength or weakness when fighting. A green arrow means a bonus to their striking power, while red means the opposite.

Learning the Interface

• The main menu is useful but a little confusing at first. There’s a lot to take in.
• Always look out for notification markers in the form of a red 1 or 2. These mean there’s something free waiting for you.
• Free Chests are available every few hours. Check in often so you can use them.
• Grand Chests are available once you’ve completed a set number of quests. Quests are simple achievements of sorts, tied into things like defeating a certain number of enemies or levelling up a particular amount of times. Grand Chests contain better items than regular ones.
• Chests have to be opened over a set period of time that gradually increases the further you progress. It’s worth ensuring that there’s always a chest being worked on at all times.
• They offer up free gold, cards, and potions.
• A mixture of gold and cards is what’s used to upgrade your existing heroes.

Upgrading Your Heroes

• You can store up to 30 cards in your collection, along with additional space for your party of four.
• Parties are restricted in terms of size. Each hero offers a different size, meaning you need to keep things balanced. You can’t expect to place 4 heroes who take up 5 spaces each, for instance. Bear this in mind when planning things out.
• Focus on levelling up your main party members rather than anyone that’s rarely used.
• Levelling up is a matter of combining spare cards along with gold to increase the experience of your main guys.
• It’s good to have some elemental balance in your party. You don’t want all your fighters to be fire-based, for instance, as that means you’ll be weak in other forms of battle.
• Keep things varied and have one member for each type of attack. That’s the best route to success.
