Game Introduction – Battle Command!

Battle Command! is a free-to-play strategy sim game created by Spacetime Studios. It’s a lot like Clash of Clans, actually. But more futuristic-looking. Gamezebo’s quick start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.

Quick Start Guide

Getting Started

  • You can grab Battle Command right now for free simply by clicking on the “Play Now” button at the top there.
  • Don’t worry too much about creating a profile name to start as you’ll have to complete the tutorial first. Of course, this also gives you plenty of time to decide on a profile name so there’s that.
  • Also be aware of the Push Notification settings. As with many mobile games, disabling notifications doesn’t actually disable them. So if you don’t want to get woken up at 2am because your base has finally been upgraded you should probably go into your notification settings directly and adjust them there.

Interface

  • Before we get into the nitty-gritty, it’s important for you to know what all those little buttons do, right? Well have no fear!
  • Profile – this displays your profile name, and if you tap on it a new menu will pop-up so that you can check your Battle History, Mail, Alliance, Treasure, Friends, Achievements, and Settings.
  • Goals – this icon with a face in it will call up a list of the three current Goals you’ll want to complete. These tasks function as a sort of guide while you’re still learning the ropes and include things like upgrading refineries, recruiting troops, and so on.
  • Chat – join the general chat channel and discuss whatever comes to mind with other Battle Command! players. Or you can join the Alliance chat (if you belong to an Alliance, of course) to talk strategy.

  • Build – allows you to build new resource gathering/storage structures, defenses, army-related stuff, purchase resources and Crystals (premium currency), add decorations, and purchase a shield to temporarily prevent attacks from other players.
  • Resources – these three items located at the top of the screen represent, from left to right: Steel, Oil, and Crystals. How fast Steel and Oil is earned, as well as how much you can effectively hang on to, depends on the amount and level of your harvesting and storage structures.
  • Misc. Icons – these miscellaneous indicators differ depending on what’s going on in your game. They include, but aren’t limited to, remaining shield time, number of Engineers available/in use, and Alliance notifications.
  • Battle! – put those new recruits to good use. Mission will have you attacking a series of AI-controlled bases in an attempt to earn some extra resources and experience.

Combat

  • Combat in Battle Command! is mechanically very simple: just place troops and watch them do their thing. However, where they’re dropped can be very important – as can the choice between which types to use and when.
  • Tap a unit’s portrait to select it. Tap anywhere on the field that isn’t blocked off by your target’s perimeter to drop a single soldier or vehicle. Tap and hold to dump a whole bunch of them.
  • Different units behave differently. Each has a favored target that they’ll prioritize above just about everything else, and will sometimes have their own rules for targeting. For example, Grenadiers prefer to go after resources and can target ground and air.
  • Knowing when and where to drop what can make a huge difference when raiding a base.

Tips & Tricks

  • Proper resource management is key in Battle Command!, especially when just starting out. Don’t neglect those harvesters!
  • No, seriously, keep an eye on those notifications every time you level up. It won’t take long before you can place and upgrade 2 or 3 of these structures, and you should do so as soon as you’re able. No joke. Otherwise you’re going to be waiting a really, really long time in order to construct more stuff in the future.
  • Also make sure to max out your storage as quickly as possible so that you can maximize your material usage.
  • You start the game with 600+ Crystals. Use 300 of them immediately in order to purchase a second Engineer bay. This will enable you to build and/or upgrade two structures at once, rather than having to wait and do one at a time. You can also try to save up enough Crystals (or earn more via in-al purchase or completing various real world tasks like registering for a website or something) to build a third Engineer bay, but that might take some doing.
Battle Command!
  • You’re on the clock (all new players start with a temporary PvP shield for a couple of days), so you may want to reconsider hoarding those Crystals. I know it goes against everything we’ve become accustomed to in other free-to-play games, but even buying that second Engineer you’ll have over 300 Crystals stockpiled that you can use to purchase the necessary resources to build things, speed construction along, and so on.
  • Again, I’m serious. It may not feel “right,” but it’s an essential strategy to getting your base up to speed quickly. And besides, 8 Crystals here and 30+ there when you have several hundred on-hand isn’t so bad.
  • Complete those Missions. Going up against AI-controlled bases seems rather silly, especially since you don’t get to hang on to any of the troops that survive the assault, but they can net you some much-needed Steel and Oil early on. Plus they give you something to do while you’re waiting. Just don’t bother trying them again if you’ve already earned three stars (100% destruction) since you won’t really earn much after that.
Battle Command!
  • Don’t be afraid to deviate from the list of Goals from time to time. They’re a handy guide, but sometimes upgrading your base isn’t quite as essential as saving up to build more defenses.
  • Don’t cluster your buildings too close. There’s a little leeway when it comes to perimeters, so you can leave a decent amount of space between your structures without worrying about enemy troops being dropped right into the middle of your base. And if you keep them too close together they become susceptible to slash damage from units like Grenadiers.
  • By the same token, don’t cluster your troops together all the time when you attack as they’re just as susceptible to explosive splash damage.
Battle Command!
  • No cheating! Just because you can use Crystals to quickly purchase and use Steel and Oil for construction doesn’t mean you can do so indiscriminately. You’re limited by what you could realistically have on-hand, so if you want that War College that costs 100,000 Steel you’d better have the means to store 100,000 Steel. Of course this also means that other players can’t do the same.
  • Make sure you have room for your troops and vehicles. Just because you have the Oil needed to train 30 Commandos doesn’t mean you’ll actually be able to house that many. Build and upgrade your army structures accordingly.
  • Don’t get attached to your units. Anyone/anything used in combat that survives is “honorably discharged” afterwards, which means you don’t get to keep them. So only use what you’re okay with losing, regardless of the outcome of the battle.
Battle Command!
  • War Games, on the other hand, you can go nuts with. Any soldiers or vehicles used in War Games will stick around afterwards, win or lose. Of course you also don’t acquire any spoils from raiding your own base, but it’s good practice.
  • You can queue-up more soldiers and vehicles even when you’re full. What this means is you can prep yourself before a fight so that training will begin as soon as it’s over. No need to scramble in order to rebuild your forces quickly.
