If you’re wondering how Cartridges work in Atomic Heart, then you’ve come to the right place. We’ve created an Atomic Heart Cartridges guide. By the end of this guide, you’ll be confident in knowing the ins-and-outs of Cartridges in the new first person RPG from Mundfish.

Atomic Heart is a brand new action RPG set in a strange world, where a fictional 1955 USSR has had an upgrade. The game focuses on the AI assistants, known as the Kollektiv. Due to a technological nightmare, the robots begin attacking Humans, and you’re tasked with stopping them.

For more information about the game, check out the official Atomic Heart website. If you’re looking for more guides, check out our Atomic Heart Enemies guide, Atomic Heart VSync guide, and our Atomic Heart weapons guide.

Atomic Heart How To Use Cartridges

We’ll now dive into the guide at hand. We’ll cover a variety of topics, so we’ll split the guide up into a few different sections.

What Are Cartridges?

Cartridges are elemental perks in Atomic Heart that can be found in the open world or crafted by using resources. They work as short-term upgrades that you can apply to your weapons, helping you take down enemies more efficiently. We say short-term because they eventually run out. Not to worry though – you can always replace them, as long as you have the resources.

There’s three different types of Cartridges in Atomic Heart, and we’ll list them below…

  • Ice Cartridge
  • Electric Cartridge
  • Fire Cartridge

How Do I Use Cartridges?

Using Cartridges might seem intimidating at first, but it’s actually a relatively simple process. There are, however, a few crucial requirements for Cartridges to work…

The first requirement is having a weapon that’s been upgraded at the Nora Machine. Upgrading the weapon should also present it with a Cartridge slot.

The second requirement might seem a bit obvious – it’s to have the Cartridge available. These aren’t upgrades that you can just purchase at a Nora Machine – they’re physical objects that you’ll either have to find or craft.

Once you’ve met the requirements, select and equip your weapon. Press the middle mouse button (or X/square if you’re on console) to open the weapon wheel. You’ll now be able to apply the Cartridge to your weapon.
