Apex Legends is the latest Battle Royale game taking the world by storm, and it’s well on its way to taking the current king Fortnite’s crown.

EA has made no secret of wanting to bring the shooter to mobile. In fact, as written in Droid Gamers, the publisher strongly hinted that it might be in the works just last week.

The reality is, it would be crazy not to bring Apex Legends to iPhone and Android. Its two biggest competitors, PUBG Mobile and Fortnite, are already tearing up the charts on our pocket platform.

That’s a huge audience that EA is potentially missing out on, and if we know one thing about EA, it’s that they absolutely love money. So surely it’s only a matter of time.

In this guide, we thought we’d round up all of the rumours and answer a few of your questions surrounding Apex Legends on mobile.

To be abundantly clear, this is purely speculation right now. Apex Legends has not been announced for mobile just yet, but we’ll update this guide with any new information that comes out.

When will Apex Legends launch on iPhone and Android?

Right now, Apex Legends has not been formerly announced for mobile so there’s every chance it won’t launch on our platforms.

Having said that, EA is clearly keen to release Apex Legends on iPhone and Android, so we’d be very surprised if it doesn’t make the transition.

Both of its main competitors, PUBG Mobile and Fortnite, are already on mobile too, so that’s all the more reason to bring it over.

How long do you think it will take?

Well, let’s take a look at its competitors. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds officially launched on PC on 23 March 2017, with a mobile version following it up just shy of a year later on 9 February 2018.

Fortnite, on the other hand, launched across PC and consoles on 26 September 2017, just a couple of months after the base Save the World game launched in July.

The mobile version launched on April 2, 2018 on iOS, with an Android version following on October 11.

So judging from its competitors, Apex Legends will likely launch on mobile within six months to a year of launching on PC and consoles.

It depends on how EA plans to handle the mobile version though. If, like Fortnite, it’s a simple case of scaling the experience down to fit on mobile, then a summer or fall launch in 2019 is very possible.

If, on the other hand, it’s a brand new version built from the ground up for mobile like PUBG Mobile was, then it could take a year or more.

We would imagine that EA wants to get the experience out there as quickly as possible, to capitalise on the success of the game and the genre in general, so would be surprised if it didn’t launch in the summer.

How will Apex Legends play on mobile?

We imagine it will play exactly like the console version, with perhaps scaled down graphics to fit the smaller screen. We’d also expect it to launch with both touchscreen support and controller support, and to support cross play with PC, Xbox, PS4, and Switch if that version arrives.

However, if it is a new version of the game like PUBG Mobile is, then we’d expect it to make a few concessions for mobile. We’ll likely see a touch friendly interface, simplified visuals, and perhaps simpler mechanics.

But in terms of content, both games will likely be identical.
