Amongst the anomalies and sickly visitors, those you speak with tell a bigger picture of the world outside the hospital. Listen closely as I venture into the Animal Hospital Anomaly Storylines of Barney, Ratthew, and Ron, telling you more about these eccentric NPCs and their overarching lore.

Let’s get into it.

Animal Hospital (Anomaly) Storylines

Without further ado, the rest of this article will contain spoilers for the following stories: Barney, Ratthew, and Ron. Proceed with caution!

Barney Storyline

First Visit

Barney will show up between Shifts 1-3 and ask for a coffee because he has had a long day. Offering him one will gain you his gratitude, and he will say, “Thanks, friend, I needed that… I will remember this.

Second Visit

On his next visit, sometime between Shifts 3-5, he will ask for another coffee. After drinking it, Barney will ask for another favour, requesting that you keep a suitcase safe for a while. The suitcase crudely has DON’T OPEN written over the front. A thought prompt appears after taking it, noting that the suitcase feels heavy.

Third Visit

He will visit again sometime around shift 5-10, requesting another coffee, which unlocks more of his storyline dialogue. This time, he requests that you take a photo of him using the camera inside your reception. The photo you print will look rather… anomalous. But Barney accepts it and leaves without hassle.

Fourth Visit

Around Shift 12, Barney will this time request a Scalpel, which you collect from Room 8. Barney says the Scalpel will help a lot, and that this time he is taking his suitcase with him.

Officer Duckman

On Barney’s next visit, he will come into your reception area. Shortly after, you’ll receive a visit from Officer Duckman. He presents you with a picture and asks if you’ve seen the suspect, who is a wanted serial killer. The picture shows Barney, the one whom you took several shifts earlier.

Here you have two options. Turn Barney in, or keep him safe. Depending on which route you take will determine the story conclusion.

If you don’t turn him in (conversation timer runs out for Officer Duckman), Barney will give you another Coffee Machine.

If you turn him in, he will rush out of the reception and stab Officer Duckman before making a getaway. You then need to give Officer Duckman emergency medical care.

Ratthew Storyline

First Visit

Ratthew makes a bold appearance, sharing not his name but some wisdom instead. Being small has its advantages… I hear things… I see things… It’s a dangerous job…

After this, he hands over paperwork and new lore is halted until his next visit.

Second Visit

On his second visit, Ratthew tells you his name and calls you a good guy. Here, we learn some more about his stability, as he advises the player not to trust anybody.

Third Visit

On his third and final visit, Ratthew claims he may need to disappear for a while because the government is after him due to his uncovering their secrets.

After this, Ratthew won’t show up anymore. Maybe the government got him for knowing too much. What he knew remains a secret.

Ron From Accounting Storyline

First Visit

Ron introduces himself on first appearance and follows up with a question, asking if you have ever wondered why they keep hiring new people… Never mind.

Second Visit

He seems shocked to see you at the reception again, assuming you would have perished in an anomaly already. Though this time, we learn a charming bit of lore about him. Ron carries maple syrup everywhere as some sort of defensive talon against monsters.

Third Visit

Trusting the player a little more, Ron tells you a secret on his third visit, that the hospital is testing something. That something being the patients. They’re not sick, he claims, they’re infected.

Fourth Visit

Possibly proving this theory true, Ron this time informs the player that old files were moved under the guise of a routine cleanup. To him, this seemed suspicious as it was a lot of smoke for just a cleanup.

Fifth Visit

During this visit, Ron tells you about his encounter with an anomaly. A ceiling littered with eyes, and a petrified doctor that seemed to vanish into thin air.

Sixth Visit

Have you ever felt someone watching you from the corner of your eye? Yeah, he is quite unnerving. Just make sure not to stare at him; he is shy.

At this point, it seems Ron regularly encounters anomalies and is unscathed, par for sanity… probably. Maybe his maple syrup works?

Seventh Visit

That rat was in my office once. Chewed through some experiment reports I wasn’t supposed to see. Did me a favour, honestly.

For now, this is his final encounter message. It seems Ron also knows more than he should, and the rat (likely Ratthew) was trying to spare him from being abducted by the government as well. Again, it seems like Ron and his maple syrup trick really do spare him from the worst.
