Grow A Garden 2’s release revealed a very different crop stealing system than the original. While the opportunity to be a crop criminal used to be locked behind a Robux gated feature, in the sequel, everyone can sneak out and commit fruit-related crime after the sun goes down. If you’re not sure how it all works, or you just want some way to stop other players scampering off with all your mangoes, we made this guide to help you get to grip with Grow A Garden 2 stealing, both how to do it, and how to defend against it.

All About The Grow A Garden 2 Stealing Mechanic

First section of for would-be thieves, the next is for garden defenders.

How To Steal

Stealing is very different to how it was in the original game. The upside? It doesn’t cost Robux. The downside, someone might hit you with a shovel. Let me explain.

In GaG 2, you can only steal crops during the night. The night is a 2:30 minute long period where everything goes dark, it’s hard to miss. With the sun down, it’s the perfect time for thievery. Stealing is pretty simple, and consists of three key steps.

  • Walk into another player’s garden. If the player isn’t in the garden itself, you’ll find that you can interact with the plants to steal them.
  • Take the plant you want. The more valuable, the better, for obvious reasons.
  • Get the stolen item back to your garden to add it to your inventory.

While none of this is too complicated, the tough bit is pulling off, as most players aren’t overjoyed about having their expensive crops pilfered. They may set a few traps for you, and once you’ve got the stolen crop in your hand, they’re free to chase you down with a shovel and take their plant back, unless you managed to reach the safety of your garden.

Stealing Tips

Here are a few hints to maximize your chances of success.

  • Mushroom Power. Buy items like the Speed Mushroom from the gear shop when it’s available. They’re not cheap, but if you’re going for a high value crop heist, you will probably still make a profit.
  • Be selective. Don’t just grab things randomly, choose something that’s going to be worth your time. Valuable mutations are a good bet, as well as checking gold plants, as there are likely to have gold fruit.
  • Don’t use hacks. Come on, man. It’s not fun if you’re just using exploits to fling people out of their garden.

How To Stop People Stealing From You

Of course if you’re a law-abiding gardener (or at least value your own crops over sneaking into other people’s patches) you might also want some ways to deter thieves from your crops. So here are our tips to prevent it.

  • Stay in your garden at night. Thieves can’t steal your crops if you’re inside your garden’s fences, it becomes locked and any efforts to lift your crops will automatically fail.
  • Chase them down. Chase that thief with your trusty shovel. If they don’t make it back to their garden, the theft attempt falls through.
  • Hire a gnome mercenary. You can buy gnomes from the gear shop for 100,000c. These little guys crave violence and will attack anyone trespassing in your garden.
  • When in doubt, use a private server. With the fairly common reports of cheating and hacking right now, the only way to stay 100% safe is to jump into a private server. These are free, so it’s not a huge deal. They have all the same events, but you will be able to better control who comes in. That doesn’t mean that your friends won’t steal your fruit of course, but at least they’ll have to answer to you afterwards.
