The backpack is used for exactly what you think!
Place the backpack on the ground and place items inside that you want to save for later. This can be anything from weapons, to random objects, and more – even dynamite! It’s essentially a glorified storage feature but with a little more interaction than just opening up a menu. Some items cannot be stored such as larger objects and non-collectables.
The best part about the backpack is that it saves items for your next playthrough. So, if you exit the game, and then load into a new one, your items will still be in the backpack! When dropping the backpack, you can walk away from it, and command it to respawn in your new location. This means you don’t have to keep going back and forth to pick it up when collecting items that are further away.
There are up to 8 free slots in the backpack for your items. The first backpack has 4 slots, the second has 5, and the final upgrade provides 8 slots. The storable items are as follows:
Every player obtains the standard backpack, but the upgraded versions have a drop rate chance. The first upgrade that grants 6 slots has a 1 in 9.24K chance, whereas the second upgrade for 8 slots has a 13.86K chance. However, in Ghost Town, the odds are a lot better. The 6-slot backpack has a 1 in 264 chance and the 8-slot backpack has a 1 in 396 chance!
