Strategy gamer have no shortage of great options on iOS, but that doesn’t mean they won’t welcome the chance to play another — especially if it’s part of a famously good strategy franchise.

Developed by Turbo Tape Games (who might have my favorite retro website gimmick ever), Warhammer: Arcane Magic is being described as a “turn-based strategy board game” which, considering Warhammer’s tabletop roots, seems like a sensible way to pitch what’s being offered.

Gameplay will combine tactical strategy with card-based play, pitting player “wizards” against all sorts of monsters and malcontents. A press release for the game, issued today, is promising “a deep single player campaign,” but makes no mention of multiplayer — which, if you’re a strategy fan… kind of a bummer, right?

But even if the game ends up being exclusively single player, that’s not necessarily a deal breaker. Plenty of fun can be had if the campaign offered is lengthy and well-designed, with sharp AI opponents.

There’s no word on a release date beyond vague terms like “soon” and “this year,” but whenever Warhammer: Arcane Magic does come out, we know it will be an iOS exclusive.

If you prefer your Warhammer less sci-fi and more fantasy, there’ve been slim pickings on the App Store. Keep an eye out for Warhammer: Arcane Magic to help balance the scales soon.
