It’s been a long time since I’ve given much thought to Ubisoft’s Driver franchise. The last entry in the series was four years ago, and even though Driver: San Francisco was well-received, the series hasn’t been an industry leader since its early days.
Still, that doesn’t mean we’re not going to be intrigued when a mobile Driver game comes along. Especially when it’s one that seems to play so far outside of the series’ norm.
Driver: Speedboat Paradise trades in the traditional car-driving mechanics of the Driver series for – you guessed it – a speedboat, and promises an “a true-to-life water and dynamic wave system” in its press release.
Players will try to bring down the mafia through water-based races filled with ramps and stunts, because video games.
Then again, you only need to travel 12 nautical miles from land if you want to be in international waters — and once you’re there, you can get away with anything.
Maybe a speedboat crime game isn’t such a bad idea after all.
Driver: Speedboat Paradise is expected to release on both iOS and Android sometime this April.
