Montezuma match-3 makes the move to mobile, blitz style

I can totally understand holding a grudge, but that Montezuma and his revenge? That’s just cold, man. On the other hand, everyone’s favorite Aztec emperor has been associated with more pleasant things, including the Treasures of Montezuma Blitz game that both iOS and Android gamers will soon be able to enjoy. Match-3 to your heart’s content, all without having to worry about running to the bathroom.

This isn’t the first go-round for old Montezuma, as Alawar Games has trotted him out three times for The Treasures of Montezuma series, racking up over 75 million installs on platforms all over the world starting way back in the ancient (by mobile gaming standards) era of 2007. Now the developers are teaming up with GREE in order to reach an even bigger audience with some free-to-play match-3 goodness.

What can you expect from the new version? Judging by its predecessors and the Android version that’s already in open beta testing, a storyline that involves Aztec artifacts, slick graphics and audio, magic totems and more. Weekly tournaments help you determine how your skills stack up against other players. A total of 25 levels have been introduced so far.

The game uses Facebook log-ins to help you find friends, and with GREE’s network extending to both iOS and Android devices, plenty of people should be exposed to it. Treasures of Montezuma Blitz is expected to come out of beta for Android before the end of March, with the iOS release coming before the end of the summer.

So you see, there’s no reason to be scared of Montezuma. He just wants you to play his new game, or at the very least, hit the ‘Follow” button up top and find out when it runs out onto smartphones and tablets everywhere. Oh sorry, poor choice of words there.
