Ember Entertainment has something scaly and bumpy in the works: Towers N’ Trolls, a fantasy Tower Defense game for iOS platforms.
The story and mechanics behind Towers N’ Trolls should feel comfortably familiar for fans of the Tower Defense genre. Monsters and trolls are swarming your lookouts, and since neither race knows how to mind their manners, they must be turned away before they wreak total havoc. Players can keep the nasties at bay by building and strategically placing catapults, canons, fire and ice towers, gas clouds, and other deterrents in the invaders’ paths.
Towers N’ Trolls will have selectable difficulty levels, from “Casual” to “Brutal.” The ability to choose your level of punishment should prove itself a welcome feature. Newcomers to the Tower Defense genre (they’re out there!) will be able to ease themselves into the art of self-defense, whereas veterans can opt to have their faces chewed off by the monster forces, if that’s what they’re into.

Ember Entertainment is a mobile games studio that was founded by some of the developers behind Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, so the ladies and gentlemen behind Towers N’ Trolls already know a little something about creating compelling fantasy environments. Indeed, Towers N’ Trolls features whimsical hand-drawn environments that are pretty to look at, but don’t take themselves too seriously. Expect to fight your way through fields, deserts, castles, and frozen mountains. The visuals should really pop on the iPad.
Towers N’ Trolls will hit the App Store on February 23. You’ll be able to grab it for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
