I have a bit of a problem. I love Titanfall, from the concept to the execution. Games with giant mechs you can ride in and take into battle are just my cup of tea. But I’m horrible at first-person shooters, making the original and its upcoming sequel a lot less fun for me than they are for others.
If you identify with that issue, here’s some good news: There’s a Titanfall mobile game coming, and it’s not going to tax your dubious FPS skills.
Respawn and Particle City are teaming with Nexon — a name you should recognize if you follow mobile games — for Titanfall: Frontline, a strategy card game coming this fall to iOS and Android. The first mobile game in part of a multi-year partnership between the companies, Frontline will incorporate the elements we all love about Titanfall and use them in a way that makes them much more accessible to the reflex-challenged.
“We’ve worked hand-in-hand with Respawn to weave in card battle strategy and collectibility with the iconic gameplay elements that make Titanfall so unique and that will help evolve the genre,” Larry Pacey, co-founder of Particle City, said in a press release. “From dropping a Titan onto the field of play to turn the tide of battle to using a combination of Parkour and Rodeo Burn Cards to take a Titan down, Titanfall: Frontline is unapologetically intense and utterly Titanfall.”
The official announcement hints at a variety of possible play styles, from loading up on Pilots and Titans to a more defensive mindset based around defensive and support units. The game will be free to download, and is slated to release this fall.
Considering Titanfall 2 is due on consoles in late October, we’d wager Titanfall: Frontline will launch in the next six or seven weeks to take advantage of that synergy. Hopefully, I speak for than just myself when I say thank you for making a Titanfall game for the rest of us. It should be fun to play in that universe without dying every 15 seconds and being the worst player on my team every game.
