Post-apocalyptic survival games are a dime a dozen these days, but there’s something about the trailer for The Long Dark that just makes it seem different. Maybe it’s how the bright color palette contrasts the game’s loneliness, or the way the bare music seems to resonate with the emptiness of the world around it.

The trailer launched today along with the game’s new website, intothelongdark.com. In addition to the full game’s eventual release, a Sandbox version will be hitting Steam sometime this September. Find out more about these (or pre-order) on the game’s official website.

In the meantime, we’ll quietly ruminate on what “first-person post-disaster survival simulation” might actually translate to in game form.
