Telltale is a company with a lot of games in the hopper. From Marvel superheroes to Minecraft Story Mode, they’ve become incredibly well-versed in locking down the biggest brands in popular culture.
And yet it’s entirely possible that none of this would have come to pass if not for their success with The Walking Dead.
With that in mind, it’s not terribly surprising that Telltale is returning to franchise for their first “mini-series,” The Walking Dead: Michonne. If you’re a regular reader of the comics, you’ll be pleased to learn that the story of The Walking Dead: Michonne will fill in the blanks of her narrative from issues #126 thru #139. And if you’re not? Don’t worry — Telltale knows a thing or two about how to keep their stories accessible to everybody.
We don’t know much more beyond the basics, but there are two more things worth thinking about. First, the game sounds as though it will tie to a new distribution model, as you’ll need to own Season Two, Episode One to access Michonne. Second — if (series creator) Robert Kirkman intentionally left Michonne’s story out of the comics so that Telltale could tell it as a video game, we may have just witnessed the moment where The Walking Dead became a true transmedia property.
Neat.
The Walking Dead Michonne will only be three episodes long, and will be available for iOS and Android (as well as every other place you’d expect) sometime this Fall.
