Strange Loves: Vampire Boyfriends Preview

It’s amazing the kinds of doors that the mobile and tablet markets have opened for gaming, perfect example being the influx of Choose Your Own Adventure-esque games we’ve seen in recent years. While the concept would have worked okay on a console or PC, it’s on a touch screen interface that they truly shine. Case in point, Tin Man Games’ Gamebook Adventures series. Having found success with the previous nine entries, the studio is looking to ascend to the double digits with Strange Loves: Vampire Boyfriends.

Strange Loves: Vampire Boyfriends

It’s amazing the kinds of doors that the mobile and tablet markets have opened for gaming, perfect example being the influx of Choose Your Own Adventure-esque games we’ve seen in recent years. While the concept would have worked okay on a console or PC, it’s on a touch screen interface that they truly shine. Case in point, Tin Man Games’ Gamebook Adventures series. Having found success with the previous nine entries, the studio is looking to ascend to the double digits with Strange Loves: Vampire Boyfriends.

Before you groan and accuse the developers of just hopping on the Twilight train, I should probably note that Strange Loves: Vampire Boyfriends is actually a send-up of the recent influx of vampire works. It takes itself much less serious than other modern vampire stories which, given the sheer amount of them, is probably for the best. Making decisions that lead to your character becoming a crazy cat lady or an MMA fighter are commonplace within the title.

Strange Loves: Vampire Boyfriends is going to be constructed in a more traditional Choose Your Own Adventure format. That doesn’t represent a significant change in the Gamebook Adventures structure, but it does mark a more streamlined approach for the series. There are also future titles under the Strange Loves hat in the works, each of which will feature a different paranormal focus. Book number two will revolve around witchcraft; book 3 will deal with shapeshifters. Like Vampire Boyfriends, they’ll all have an emphasis on humor and romance.

The game (or app, if you prefer) is launching on August 13 for both iOS and Android. If you’ve not yet wrapped up your last Choose Your Own Adventure title, you should probably hurry up.
