Okay, first up, if you haven’t done so yet, please take a moment to watch the trailer below. It’s a wonderfully gory pastiche that tells you pretty much everything you need to know about the vibe Slayaway Camp is going for.

All done? Excellent. So as you now know, the game is a cute-as-a-button take on some of the goriest movies of the ’70s and ’80s. You’re a masked killer, and you’ve got to do away with all the annoying teenage counsellors partying at the titular camp.

You do this by solving a series of increasingly difficult puzzles. The mechanics are described as slide-to-slay, and the death animations are apparently “Super Ultra Mega Kill Animations of Death,” both of which sound pretty cool.

And the game has some pretty big names behind it. There’s Jason Kapalka, a co-founder and game designer at PopCap; Ido Yehieli, who created Cardinal Quest; and Nate Schmold, who made Cosmochoria.

While we’ve not got our fingers on the game yet, it does look like a gloriously violent romp that understands the fictional murderers that inspired it. And with talent like that working on it, we expect it to play pretty darn well too.

Slayaway Camp is slated to land on iOS and Android this summer, and we reckon it’s one that’s worth keeping an eye on. I mean, you wouldn’t want a lunatic with a chainsaw sneaking up on you, would you?

Simon has been playing portable games since his Game Boy Pocket and a very worn out copy of Donkey Kong Land 2, and he has no intention of stopping anytime soon. Playing Donkey Kong Land 2 that is. And games in general we suppose.
