Shadowgun Preview
Madfinger Games had promised that their upcoming console-quality action game Shadowgun would be arriving this September, but with the halfway point of the month quickly creeping up and nary a peep from the studio, we were starting to wonder if it might just slip past its original target date. As it turns out, Shadowgun will still see the light of day before the end of September, but just barely – the game will be hitting the iOS App Store September 28th.

Shadowgun to hit App Store September 28th
Madfinger Games had promised that their upcoming console-quality action game Shadowgun would be arriving this September, but with the halfway point of the month quickly creeping up and nary a peep from the studio, we were starting to wonder if it might just slip past its original target date. As it turns out, Shadowgun will still see the light of day before the end of September, but just barely – the game will be hitting the iOS App Store September 28th.
In addition to the release date announcement, Madfinger has unveiled three new screenshots to get you ready for the action;

There’s no word yet on the Android release date, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that it’s sooner rather than later. In the meantime, stay tuned for our review based on the iOS version later this month!
Shadowgun gameplay trailer surfaces at E3 2011
It was only a few days ago that our collective jaws hit the floor at the reveal of Madfinger Games upcoming action game Shadowgun. Teasing home console quality graphics, the likes of which we’ve never seen on a mobile device before, Shadowgun‘s announcement left us clamouring for more. Now it looks like more is just what they’ve delivered, releasing this rather lengthy gameplay trailer at E3 2011.
Another interesting tidbit that’s surfaced: the game’s story was written by bestselling author Micah Nathan. Expect this one to hit the iOS App Store and Android market this September.
Shadowgun looks to set a new standard for mobile graphics later this year
Graphics on iOS devices can look nice. Really nice. When RAGE hit the App Store last fall, our jaws hit the floor. When Infinity Blade released only weeks later, our eyes nearly burst out of our heads. And don’t even get us started on how good Dead Space looked. But as sharp as things can be, nobody would ever expect iOS visuals to compete on the same level as current generation console games – would they?
Shadowgun is an upcoming release from developer Madfinger Games, the same studio responsible for the action-packed Samurai II: Vengeance, that’s looking to do the impossible – cram current-gen home console graphics onto a portable device.

A third-person action game created with the Unity development platform, Shadowgun places players in the shoes of a future bounty hunter whose in hot pursuit of a… You know what? The developers tell the story better than we ever could;
SHADOWGUN combines tactical combat with third person harrowing action, ushering in a new visual standard for handheld gaming. SHADOWGUN puts players into the role of John Slade, a professional bounty hunter in the year 2350. Slade’s mission: hunt down Dr. Edgar Simon, renowned geneticist and former employee of the trans-galactic corporation Toltech Enterprises. Players must lead “shadowgun” John Slade as he infiltrates Dr. Simon’s mountain fortress and fights his personal army of mutants, cyborgs, and genetically-enhanced humanoids. Using state-of-the-art weaponry, ships, and the assistance of S.A.R.A.—Slade’s personal android assistant. The story is written by award winning author Micah Nathan who has joined the MadFinger team as executive creative consultant for SHADOWGUN.
If the screenshots above seem fairly unbelievable, then check out the videos below. They show off a tech demo of Shadowgun running on a Tegra-2 based Android tablet. The demo also shows the tablet streaming video to an HDTV, which really gives you a sense of how well the visuals hold up to similar third-person action games like Gears of War. (note: there’s no confirmation at this time that the final build will allow for streaming to a TV like you see here).
No release date has been given asides from the very vague “2011,” but at least we can confirm that Shadowgun is on track for a release later this year. Expect this one to hit the iPhone, iPad, and Android.
