It’s always great when games that seem like they belong on mobile actually come to mobile. Take Severed, for instance. Originally announced by Drinkbox Studios of Guacamelee fame to a murky vagueness in terms of platforms, it genuinely surprised folks by ending up as a Vita exclusive.

Not any more. Drinkbox rolled out a new trailer today announcing its release for Nintendo’s Wii U and 3DS, but also included in that reveal was news that it was coming to iOS as well. Considering that touch-based controls are inherently baked into its gameplay, this move strikes one as an “it’s about time” type of deal.

Critics mostly liked Severed on the Vita, which is something that Drinkbox co-founder Graham Smith noted in today’s press release.

“We’re very pleased to be able to bring Severed to major touch-enabled platforms,” Smth said. “The game’s recent release on the Vita was well-received by critics and fans alike, and we look forward to bringing the experience to Apple and Nintendo fans.”

Now the only question is what took it so long? In case the trailer alone isn’t enough to convince you why you should care, Severed also has a really cool website where you can learn more.

No word on an exact iOS release date, but “Summer” implies it will be on the App Store within the next couple of months.
