Saturated Dreamers – First Look

Paul Eres, the developer of the cerebral tower defense title Immortal Defense is working on a new game called Saturated Dreamers, an experimental game about exploring an alien lake and discovering the strange and wonderful creatures that live there. Here’s what we can tell you about it so far.

Saturated Dreamers

Your job is to explore the lake in your little ship to discover more about it and try to understand its secrets. Your ship will gradually acquire tools that help you on your mission, such as a light to illuminate dark places, a line to pull things, and even a sound device that lets you record the sounds of the creatures and play it back to them to see what happens.

The game is open-ended, and looks like it will focus on exploration rather than fast-paced clicking or “winning” in a traditional sense. According to the game’s official description: “it has action without harm, a shooter without explosions, bosses which become your friends once defeated. The story and game progress proceed non-linearly, you can explore things in your own personal order. The goal is not to defeat every enemy in your path, but to find ways to bypass them without harming them, or even to find ways to connect to them.”

There is more information on the Saturated Dreamers development blog, including detailed sections on the lake, its creatures, characters you can find, and your ship’s strange abilities. The developer is aiming for a release date somewhere around late 2010 or early 2011.
