Heartwild Solitaire developers Orchid Games have set cards aside for the time being to focus on Royal Trouble, an upcoming adventure game where two bickering royal heirs find themselves locked in a dungeon and must reluctantly join forces to escape and save the kingdom.

Royal Trouble

Princess Loreen and Prince Nathaniel don’t remember how they ended up in the same dungeon together, and they aren’t used to the concept of teamwork. But it’s teamwork they’ll need to escape the dungeon and find out why they were kidnapped.

The point-and-click style gameplay switches back and forth between the two characters, who each have their own inventory items and just might be persuaded to share. As is typical with point-and-click adventures, the mouse cursor changes shape to tell you how you can interact with the environment, whether it’s examining an object, picking something up, using an inventory item, or talking to another character. The very first scene in our playable demo, for example, literally started with a bang as we had to construct a bomb to bust out of prison by collecting and combining items in the jail cell.

Just as Heartwild Solitaire boasted a story worthy of a romance novel, writing seems to be one of Royal Trouble‘s strong points as well. Even though we could only spend a limited amount of time with our preview demo, there were plenty of funny moments and light-hearted dialog that moved ahead at a good clip. We enjoyed, too, the game’s hand-drawn art style, which reminded us of Robin’s Quest.
