Octodad: Dadliest Catch Preview

It’s hard to juggle everything life throws your way. Your boss is demanding, your job is stressful, you have to make time for family and you need a little bit of alone time here and there to let yourself unwind. All that’s made doubly-difficult when you just so happen to be a secret cephalopod, trying to hide your true nature from your loving family. That was the premise of last year’s hilariously offbeat Octodad, and we’ve recently learned that a sequel to the cult hit is on the way.

Octodad returns with more squishy goodness

It’s hard to juggle everything life throws your way. Your boss is demanding, your job is stressful, you have to make time for family and you need a little bit of alone time here and there to let yourself unwind. All that’s made doubly-difficult when you just so happen to be a secret cephalopod, trying to hide your true nature from your loving family. That was the premise of last year’s hilariously offbeat Octodad, and we’ve recently learned that a sequel to the cult hit is on the way.

Developer Young Horses has launched a teaser trailer announcing Octodad: Deadliest Catch. The sequel seems to feature more of what made the original great; the aquatic character floundering to maintain his disguise as a normal human male despite the fact that the giant head and tentacles poking out of his suit should probably be a dead giveaway. Glimpses of gameplay in the trailer showcase our hero awkward flinging a fish at some logs in some sort of shooting gallery, being whipped about helplessly by gears and giant fans, and absolutely tearing it up on the dance floor in what we expect to be the single greatest dancing level in the history of video games.

The original Octodad drew quite a following amongst gaming press and became the absolute darling of the indie crowd. The game is still available as a free download if you want to check it out yourself and see what all the fuss is about. We highly recommend it, it’s hard to try this game and not fall in love with it instantly. If nothing else, it’s worth checking out the game just to try and figure out how on earth an octopus can marry a human woman and have two perfectly normal, human children without anyone catching on. He’s a crafty one, that Octodad.

The sequel is slated to land on PC and Mac in 2013, though a specific launch date hasn’t been nailed down quite yet. In the meantime we’ll just revisit the original and sit here singing the new theme song to ourselves until our coworkers snap and go on an Octodad-fueled rampage.
