Sometimes a bird just wants to stroll

Non Flying Soldiers is an upcoming puzzle game from Blue Shadow Games that puts you at the head of a literal army of birds who can’t fly.

Non Flying Soldiers

Not much is known about Non Flying Soldiers at this point but the concept sounds simple enough, if perhaps a little weird: Bird soldiers who can’t fly need your help to get home. Using a “range of contraptions” like springboards, sandbags and speed boosters, it’s up to you to guide them across more than 40 levels filled with deadly obstacles that seem rather oddly out of place in the otherwise rather friendly-looking, suburban setting.

Non Flying Soldiers will offer unlockable game art, videos and music to reward dedicated players, and even throws in a mystery “retro arcade game” as a bonus. Screenshots are sharp, colorful and cute, and the idea of a latter-day Lemmings featuring ironically-feathered ground-pounders has an obvious appeal, but we’ll have to wait a bit to find out how it actually holds up as a game, as gameplay videos don’t appear to be online at this point. What is online, rather oddly, is the brief but thoroughly enjoyable ten-track soundtrack, which can be picked up absolutely free, right now, from Bandcamp.
