Nightfall Preview
One genre which has been absolutely exploding on iOS is the gaggle of card and board games being translated onto touch screens. We’ve lost track of how many real-world games have popped up on mobile devices, and now we’ve found out that another heavy-hitter is on the way. Playdek gets ready to tackle the darker side of deck building in Nightfall
One genre which has been absolutely exploding on iOS is the gaggle of card and board games being translated onto touch screens. We’ve lost track of how many real-world games have popped up on mobile devices, and now we’ve found out that another heavy-hitter is on the way. Playdek has announced that they are just a few short weeks away from launching Nightfall on iOS devices.

Nightfall is a deck-building card game in which players must strategically utilize their resources to beat back an undead horde. In the game’s world the sun has disappeared, and in the new eternal night, vampires, werewolves and other monstrous beings have arisen to claim the land for their own. Players must compete to be the last man standing and thus gain dominion over the creatures of the night.
The primary hook of Nightfall is the chaining mechanic, where cards sharing colors can be linked to one another to dish out big damage or dole out helpful effects. Careful balancing is required though, as the effects of cards grow more powerful as the chain grows, and reckless players may find themselves decimated if they don’t play their cards very carefully. Furthermore, special rules kick in for players who are losing, giving them the opportunity to claw their way back into the fight. It’s the sort of game where cunning players can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Perhaps even more exciting than the game itself is whose making it, as Nightfall is being developed by the team at Playdek. Some folks may remember Playdek as the team behind the iOS adaptation of Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer, which is widely hailed as an incredible translation of a similar deck-building card game on iOS. If Nightfall is even half as good, then we’re in for a very special experience.
The current plans calls for Nightfall to launch by the end of the month, and Playdek is promising to send along more info as it becomes available. In the meantime you may want to sleep with the lights on, because the things that go bump in the night are coming, and you at least deserve to give yourself a fighting chance.
