Moonchild Preview
What I’m about to say, I say as a massive fan of the genre: RPGs are riddled with tropes. More often than not you take control of a group of uniquely-powered heroes and set out on saving the world or defeating a great evil. I’m not complaining, as that formula has inspired some of the greatest games ever. But there’s always room for something different, and that’s where Moonchild comes in.

Get ready for Aldorlea Games next great RPG adventure
What I’m about to say, I say as a massive fan of the genre: RPGs are riddled with tropes. More often than not you take control of a group of uniquely-powered heroes and set out on saving the world or defeating a great evil. I’m not complaining, as that formula has inspired some of the greatest games ever. But there’s always room for something different, and that’s where Moonchild comes in.

Moonchild tells the story of Queen Calypso, and her hunt to rescue her daughter (also named Moonchild). For reasons unknown, she was kidnapped by a masked intruder in the thick of a stormy night. It may have been the work of an enemy nation, but some signs point to the task being carried out by a new form of evil.
The game will possess an appearance not unlike classic 2D RPGs like Final Fantasy III and Phantasy Star IV. It will also be packed with hours of gameplay, and sundry secrets for the player to uncover. It seeks to invoke that same sense of exploration many of us felt during the 16-bit era of RPGs, back before we had the Internet to help us discover anything and everything about a game.

Aldorlea Games, the game’s developer, has an established pedigree in developing retro RPGs. Their previous work includes The Book of Legends and Millennium 4, both of which were very warmly received by players and critics alike. With that in mind, it’s hard for us to not get excited about Moonchild. After all, who doesn’t love a good old school RPG?
