Mo’ Monsters Preview
Like money, you can really never have too many monsters. And in that same vein, you can never have too many games that revolve around the capturing and training of monsters. Competition breeds innovation, right? Mo’ Monsters is the latest game to hop aboard the monster-catching craze that seemed to crop up out of nowhere, and it’s shaping up to be one of the good ones.

A monumental mess of monsters mostly makes for a merry time
Like money, you can really never have too many monsters.
Of what’s been shown, Mo’ Monsters doesn’t deviate too far from the Pokemon formula. You level up monsters that possess unique elemental powers, and go up against other monsters. One interesting difference, though, is that there are real-time elements in the battle system that enable you to power up your attacks. I’m envisioning something along the lines of the battle system in Super Mario RPG.
Being that we live in the age of social, players can also take to Facebook to rub their monster collections in their friends’ faces. Having captured all the Pokemon in the original game and being met with incredulity from all my friends, I consider this a pretty useful addition. I suppose I could have just found better friends, but that never crossed my 8-year-old mind.
If you don’t fancy yourself the adventurous type, it’s possible to just purchase monsters instead, as well as various power-ups and items. It’s a dangerous addition that could make or break the game, but if done right it could enhance the gameplay in some interesting ways.
Mo’ Monsters will be free to play, and launches on the App Store on October 10. Perfect timing, as the game will feature seasonal monsters inspired by various holidays. Bring on the skeleton monsters!
