Maya’s Dress Up Preview

Every iPhone-toting woman out there started out life as a little girl, and every little girl I know loves to play dress up. It only stands to reason then that Maya’s Dress Up, the upcoming clothing title from developer Total Eclipse for the iPhone and iPad, should remind female gamers of their younger days.

Maya’s Dress Up brings the paper doll experience of your youth to the App Store

Every iPhone-toting woman out there started out life as a little girl, and every little girl I know loves to play dress up. It only stands to reason then that Maya’s Dress Up, the upcoming clothing title from developer Total Eclipse for the iPhone and iPad, should remind female gamers of their younger days.

Not unlike the paper dolls of your youth, Maya’s Dress Up is less a game and more an exercise in fashion. Starring the heroine of the PC time management game Fashion Boutique, players will experiment with different combinations of clothing, hair styles, and accessories as they tailor Maya’s look for any occasion.

The game promises to offer “literally billions of combinations” according to the developer, letting players mix and match a variety of clothing items. Confirmed categories include tops, bottoms, dresses, skirts, socks, tights, swimwear, shoes, hairstyles, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, bags, belts, gloves, eyeglasses, and sunglasses.

In addition to customizing Maya’s appearance, players can place Maya in a variety of locations that are appropriate to the outfit you’ve assembled. Visit a snowy mountaintop in some winter wear, for example, or put on a bikini and take Maya to the beach. Players can take a snapshot of their finished product to use as wallpaper on their iPhone, send to a friend via e-mail, or even publish on Facebook.

And if the billions of combinations aren’t enough, the developers are promising frequent updates that will expand both the wardrobe and background selections.

The artwork in Maya’s Dress Up is hand-painted and has been optimized for the iPhone 4’s retina display, should you happen to own one of Apple’s latest devices. An HD version of the game will be available for the iPad as well, providing players a little more elbow room and a larger screen to see the detail in the artwork.

If you’re looking forward to dressing Maya in the finest fashions, you won’t have to wait long. Total Eclipse is aiming to put Maya’s Dress Up on the App Store as early as next week.
