Herocraft, purveyors of fine mobile games, have just released the trailer for a brand new marble-popping puzzler. The basics of gameplay should be familiar to anyone who remembers the heydays of Zuma and Luxor, yet Marble Duel introduces a twist so obvious that I’m embarrassed I didn’t think of it first: battle gameplay.

Players will pop marbles of different colors – some will damage the enemy, some will offer protection. Considering how well more traditional match-3 games are doing with battle hybrids (Puzzle & Dragons, Marvel Puzzle Quest, Fable Age, etc..), it’s kind of shocking to think we haven’t seen this before.

The idea may seem obvious in retrospect, but it’s one I’d consider in good hands. There’s no set release date for Marble Duel, but Herocraft says it should be marblefighting it’s way to mobile devices “soon.”
