Manny Pacquiao: Pound for Pound Preview

I feel like I have a weird relationship with boxing (beyond the fact that it’s completely one-way – boxing doesn’t care about me in the slightest). I really couldn’t care less about the sport, yet I absolutely love movies about boxing, and even boxing video games. There’s a total disconnect between actively watching the sport and taking part in the other forms of media that are based on it. Perhaps what it needs is to present the personalities as action heroes in thrilling adventures with a heavy dose of martial arts films inspiration.

Wait… what?

More Bruce Lee than WBC, Manny Pacquiao: Pound for Pound comes to iOS later this month

Wait… what?

I’m talking about the upcoming iOS, Android and Facebook game Manny Pacquiao: Pound for Pound that puts the international boxing star front and center in an action fighting game. You’ll control Manny with swiping gestures and touch commands as he punches and kicks his way through underground fighting pits in search of a kidnapped friend. You know, just like real boxing.

Your little digital Manny will gain experience and increase his various attributes as the game goes on. Game Center support is present for unlocking achievements and scoring on leaderboards to show off your virtual Manny skills.

The graphics look to be totally serviceable, with a concentration on nicely modeled characters. Manny himself looks pretty good in the screenshots, so at least the developers probably won’t be getting a visit from him to correct the issue.
