I don’t know about you, but I’m beginning to realize more and more that mobile games are quickly becoming my Kryptonite. Put a great mobile game in my hands, and it’s a pretty safe bet that I’ll become completely absorbed in the adventure, and forget all about whatever real-life duties I was supposed to be doing that day. And that’s why it’s somewhat ironic that the next great mobile game on my list deals with a character that has his very own Kryptonite as well: only his downfall actually happens to be Kryptonite, literally!

Serving as a tie-in to the upcoming Man of Steel film, Man of Steel the game is a 3D style-brawler where players take on the role of Superman himself, and beat the stuffing out of General Zod and his Kryptonian forces in both ground and air battles. Story Mode is set to feature a truly cinematic experience through locations that coincide with the film, such as Smallville and the Kent Farm; while Survivor Mode lets Superman fans compete against one another to see who can hold out the longest against Zod’s evil forces.
Now usually movie tie-in games are hit or miss around these parts. I’m not sure what it is, but a lot of the time movie games just seem a bit too thinly veiled in their attempts to make a quick buck around a popular movie’s release. But here’s why we think this one already has an amazing amount of potential: it’s being developed by none other than Phosphor Games Studios. In case you’ve somehow managed to forget, Phosphor is the team behind the incredibly beautiful Zelda-like adventure called Horn from last year, as well as the deeply atmospheric The Dark Meadow which was released in 2011.
Expressing his excitement about the upcoming game and movie project, Senior Vice President of Mobile, Social and Emerging Platforms at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Greg Ballard remarked that “Phosphor Games delivered an addictive brawler that lets players feel the power of being a Super Hero.”
Man of Steel will make its way onto the iOS App Store, Google Play Marketplace, and Amazon Appstore for Android on Jun 14, 2013, the same day that the film is expected to hit theaters, and it will set you back $2.99. There will also be an HD version available for $4.99 that you can play exclusively on your iPad.
