Mall Dreams – First Look

Metrogames’s Mall Dreams offers a fun twist on the city-building style of game that’s gotten quite popular on Facebook. In Mall Dreams, you’re given your own dream mall to build up as you see fit, placing stores inside of a marked-off areas and building pathways between them. You can open any type of store you can afford, but you also need to keep stores stocked and hire workers (your friends) to attend them.

Mall Dreams may feel more like building up a commercial district than a mall, but it still scratches the itch to manage things and make tons of money. Most stores cost coins, but certain special stores cost Facebook Credits. You never need to buy the Credits stores, but sometimes customers will wander in and express a desire to rent videos or see movies (desires for Credits-only businesses).

Mall Dreams

You can keep customers happiest by buying things they want, whether it’s a particular product or a decoration. You keep up a steady stream of customers by not letting your work shifts end, setting your mall up with stores that customers like, and keep your stores stocked in merchandise to sell. You can upgrade stores so they hold more stock at any one time.

Mall Dreams

Right now Mall Dreams is very stable, especially for a rapidly-growing game, with few problems running even when your mall is thronged with customers. You can invite friends to work for you or use temp workers. Hiring friends can be difficult if you’re the only person you know playing the game, but hopefully Mall Dreams will develop a big playerbase in the future.

Mall Dreams

Mall Dreams is a pleasant twist on the city-building game, but not so unfamiliar that it’s hard to play. Facebook gamers who enjoy designing virtual spaces and building up virtual spaces are sure to get a kick out of it. It might feel overly-similar to other games with building and tycoon themes if you play a lot of them, but otherwise it’s pretty engaging.
