M.U.S.E. looks to give S.H.I.E.L.D. a run for its money

You’ve got to love secret government agencies and their creative acronyms. Until now, Marvel Comics’ S.H.I.E.L.D. has set the bar when it comes to protecting humanity, but it looks like it’ll have some serious competition from M.U.S.E. This new organization, which stars in a new iOS game of the same name, might very well become the role model for saving the world and looking like a bunch of hardcases while doing so.

M.U.S.E. stars Sid Tripp, whose official title within the government organization M.U.S.E. is apparently “bad-ass agent.” Tripp is a one-man army, and the only thing capable of holding off the forces of the villain known as The Brain. Sid may be facing down seemingly endless hordes of super soldiers and robots, but the man has a major arsenal at his disposal.

M.U.S.E. is third person shooter, featuring run-and-gun gameplay with cover mechanics and some RPG elements thrown in. The game is set to feature an arcade-style score system, one that yields maximum points for combo kills that involve environmental destruction. The points can then be used to upgrade Sid’s abilities, increasing things like his speed, ammo supply, and damage.

As you can see from the game’s trailer, the graphics in M.U.S.E. are pretty stunning, designed to take advantage of the processing power in the iPad 2. Ayopa has also revealed that the game will be fully compatible with iOS 5’s AirPlay mirroring, which means you can actually watch the action on an HDTV.

M.U.S.E. is due out later this month for both Android and iOS. The game’s set to receive an episodic storyline, too, meaning that there will be a steady amount of content released for it after its initial launch.
