I can’t fully understand it, and I don’t quite know what it’s about, but I’ll tell you this: Little Inferno has piqued my curiosity. And also invaded my ears.

I can’t fully understand it, and I don’t quite know what it’s about, but I’ll tell you this: Little Inferno has piqued my curiosity. And also invaded my ears.
Billed as a “strange new game,” Little Inferno is to be the first release from indie studio Tomorrow Corporation. The result of an exciting partnership between Allan Blomquist, Kyle Gabler (World of Goo both), and Kyle Gray (Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure), Tomorrow Corp looks to be a 3-man operation geared towards fleshing out ideas the trio has alongside their other personal ventures. To that end, the company is a part of Carnegie Mellon University’s Experimental Gameplay Project.
And this, it would seem, is their first experiment. Near as I can tell from the trailer’s lyrics, and crumbs of info in the official site, Little Inferno is set to be a physics stacker of some sort. Per the short description, your goal is to “burn flaming logs, screaming robots, credit cards, batteries, exploding fish, unstable nuclear devices, and tiny galaxies.” The game will be an “adventure that takes place almost entirely in front of a fireplace – about looking up up up out of the chimney and the cold world just on the other side of the wall” (emphasis theirs).
There’s no hint about what this means for gameplay, but based on the team’s past history, I’d bet on either a physics stacker, a crafting-centric puzzler, or a macabre platformer. Also, I’m completely guessing here, and am simply desperate to give this project my money. Luckily for anyone who owns a PC, you can do just that! Tomorrow Corp’s website is offering a $15.00 paid beta program, wherein which PC users can sign up for the earliest available access to the game’s pre-release build, which will be sent out in stages to those who paid – including all eventual refined content.
I’m not one to tell people how to spend their money, but seriously: if you own a PC, spend your money on this! The diversity of platforms alone – Windows, Mac, Linux, and then suddenly Wii U – indicate that this is a game to watch mechanically, and with the track Little Inferno. And, cue music!
