When it came to mobile games at E3, Square Enix didn’t mess around. Not only did they announce a Final Fantasy VII iOS port and a Western release for Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ, but they revealed a merging of two very unique properties — one old, and one new.

Those properties? Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft, and the “GO” suffix that they debuted in last year’s puzzle game Hitman GO.

As it turns out, “GO” is Square Enix’s way of say “it’s kind of like a board game,” which is pretty cool branding to establish. And the second title to adopt this branding, Lara Croft GO, is coming sooner than you might have expected. This month sooner. Square Enix has just announced that the Lara Croft GO release date is set for August 27th on mobile devices.

They’ve also announced a Lara Croft GO art contest is under way, and it will benefit the gamer-centric charity Child’s Play. If you have even the slightest inkling of artistic talent, you can learn more about it on the official Tomb Raider tumblr page.

Jim Squires is the Editor-in-Chief of Gamezebo. Everything you see passes his eyes first, so we like to think of him as "the gatekeeper of cool stuff." He likes good games, great writing, and just can't say no to a hamburger. Also, he is not a bear.
