King’s Bounty coming to Facebook with social elements and PvP combat

The venerable King’s Bounty series, which has been around since 1990 on PC, will be making its debut on Facebook this summer courtesy of strategy game publisher Nival. King’s Bounty: Legions will introduce turn-based strategy gameplay along with player-versus-player (PvP) combat that allows Facebook friends to compete with each other through the popular social network.

“King’s Bounty: Legions is the very definition of a social strategy game, offering the combination of competitive, tactical gameplay with fun social interaction,” said David D Christensen, general manager of Nival’s North American operations and executive producer of King’s Bounty: Legions, in a statement. “With its mixture of fun for both hardcore and social gamers, we like to think of King’s Bounty: Legions as the chocolate and vanilla swirl cone of Facebook gaming.”

 Legions

Players will advance through the game by completing quests, hiring troops and managing their armies, and engaging in tactical turn-based combat. The game will debut with 40 gameplay levels. Gamers will be treated to multiple forms of combat including PvP battles against friends, PvE battles against challenging AI, and asynchronous battles, all of which will test users’ ability to strategically assemble the paramount army.

Beta testing begins this summer on Facebook, at which time, players will be able to play for free and may choose to purchase in-game items. Nival said it plans to support King’s Bounty: Legions with regular game updates featuring new troops, creatures, maps and quests.

Nival, the game’s publisher, has particular experience in publishing strategy games and massively multiplayer online (MMO) games. Its catalog includes Heroes of Might and Magic V, Blitzkrieg, Silent Storm, Etherlords and the soon to be launched Prime World.

Legions is being developed by KranX productions, a studio founded in 2004 by developers who are best known for their work on well-known PC games including Vangers: One for the Road, MOBL, Spanking Runners, Perimeter, Yumsters! and Musaic Box.

King’s Bounty: Legions will eventually be a cross-platform title, appearing first on Facebook, and later on the iOS and Android platforms. The game is being developed on the Unity 3D engine.
