I may not be able to prove or disprove the existence of aliens, but there’s one thing I can say with certainty: Destroying them in video games is a lot of fun. So much so, in fact, that Space Invaders led to a shortage of 100-yen coins at the height of its popularity. While I don’t see another video game pulling that off again, there’s at least a pretty solid chance Invader Eliminator will leave a lot of retro gamers — and others — excited about taking out aliens again.

The game tells the story of a government-built mutant created to fend off an alien invasion on the moon. While guns are oftentimes the weapon of choice in such situations, the main character here opts for crushing enemies instead. He (she?) travels in a counter-clockwise circle around the screen, traversing the walls and roof, and a properly-timed tap on the screen will cause him to jump towards an enemy and squish them. If you make contact with an alien in any other way than jumping on it, it’s game over.
Each kill awards players with a point, and smashing more than one alien in a single jump will net you combo points. The game will also feature a variety of different power-ups — none of which have been announced — that randomly show up and assist the mutant on his mission. There will also be additions like character upgrades and unlockable “guest characters,” the latter of which can be acquired by completing various objectives.
Developer Underground Pixel is looking to release the game for PC, Mac, and iOS sometime in Q1 2013, so be sure to follow the game here on Gamezebo for future updates as well as information about the game’s release date.
