Grim Fandango Remastered ‘Exclusively’ for PS4 and Vita

The most out-of-left-field announcement at Sony’s E3 press conference was brought through a photo appearance by Tim Schafer.

The cameo (told through a fake child’s letter to Sony, asking for Schafer games) led to the reveal that Grim Fandango is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita with “talk about other platforms soon,” according to Schafer on Twitter.

“[Grim Fandango] will be coming exclusively to PS4 and PS Vita,” PlayStation’s VP of Publisher & Developer Relations Adam Boyes said, “thanks to the relationship with our good friends at Disney.” Boyes’ further explained the game will be “remastered” by Double Fine “in tandem with our third-party production team.”

The phrasing does not imply timed console exclusivity, leading me to wonder if these “other platforms” Schafer mentioned aren’t PC and possibly mobile.

Schafer is the co-creator of adventure games The Secret of Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle, as well as the designer of later classics Full Throttle and Psychonauts. Grim Fandango was one of the latter, starring a “travel agent” in the Land of the Dead as he tries to save a newly arrived lost soul.

I’m incredibly happy to see my most sought-after Schafer game available for cash money. LucasArts was an intransigent mess before the Disney acquisition, so they’ve already given me hope we’ll see other classics come to new hardware.
