We hardly knew ye

It could be argued that the adventure genre’s glory days have come and gone. After all, it would be next to impossible for developers to top the brilliance of classics like Maniac Mansion, The Secret of Monkey Island, and Day of the Tentacle. Many have come close, but few have come closer than Daedelic Entertainment with the Deponia series. Featuring gorgeous artwork, clever puzzles, and jokes that are actually funny, it captures what made the genre so well-loved in the first place.

But all good things must come to an end, and Goodbye Deponia is Daedelic’s final entry in the series.

Now, don’t start tearing up just yet. The studio has no intention of making the trilogy’s final entry a sad one. The same brand of humor established in Deponia and Chaos on Deponia will be on display here as well, along with a resolution to the surprisingly engrossing story.

Protagonist Rufus and love interest Goal are closer than ever to reaching Elysium and rescuing Deponia from destruction. Of course, this is all easier said than done. Rufus has a penchant for causing trouble, and it’s no different in Goodbye Deponia.  The specifics of these hijinks are being kept under wraps for the moment, but Daedelic has stated that Rufus’s trademark arrogance will be tested. Sounds pretty intense!

And, of course, the gorgeous artwork of the original games will be on full display here as well. There hasn’t been a ton of screenshots revealed just yet, but what’s been shown makes it clear that players are in for some serious eye candy.

Although we don’t have a release date yet, Daedelic has stated that the game will be released in Q3 of next year—so likely during fall.
