Playrix’s Fishdom is a game that’s seen numerous spin-offs, from special themed titles for Halloween, Christmas and Thanksgiving to last year’s hidden object game Fishdom H20: Hidden Odyssey. Now Playrix is going back to its roots with Fishdom 2, a direct sequel to the original match-3 / aquarium simulation that started it all.

Like the first Fishdom, the sequel is all about letting your imagination run wild as you decorate fish tanks with a variety of exotic fish, colorful plants and accessories, and functional items like filters and lamps. You can place the decorations anywhere you like to create a truly personalized fish tank, and then take pictures of it to share with friends or even set it up as your computer’s screensaver.

Fishdom 2

You’ll earn the money to purchase new fish and accessories by playing colorful sea-themed match-3 puzzle levels, which involve swapping adjacent tiles to create matches of three or more. There are several power-ups to keep things interesting as well, such as the Depth Bomb, which appears if you make a match of 5 and destroys everything in a nearby radius.

Fishdom 2 offers several tanks to unlock, each with a unique theme. The Evergreen Oasis lets you travel back in time and give your tank an ancient Egyptian flavor, while Merworld lets you recreate the watery kingdom of the sea-god Poseidon. There’s also a ranch and a fourth bonus aquarium that will only be available in the Premium Edition (more on that below). You’ll be able to create as many tanks as you like based on these four themes.

The sequel will also include 120 new levels and hidden object mini-games. There are two game modes: Relaxed (no timer) or Against the Clock, where you’ll have to complete the match-3 levels in a certain amount of time.

According to Playrix, Fishdom 2 will launch exclusively Playrix.com sometime around the end of May as a Premium Edition, with the Standard Edition to follow. The Premium Edition will include:

  • A “Fishipedia” of fun facts about the sea creatures in the game.
  • Original soundtrack
  • Bonus Vacation-themed background
  • 30 Bonus levels
  • Wallpapers
